There is no way Troy Brown makes this team

Well, somebody had to do it. Can anyone make a plausible argument of he makes the team?

In another thread I said they might PUP him, giving him a chance to slip in if some of the other WRs didn't pan out.

I'm revising my opinion. As much as I love Troy Brown as a Patriot player, I just don't see how he makes this team.

Why?

1) Moss, Stallworth, and Welker are virtual locks to make the team.

2) Caldwell and Gaffney are better WRs than Troy Brown at this point in his career. That makes 5 WRs ahead of Brown.

3) Washington would likely be the 6th WR if the Patriots choose to even keep that many on the roster.

4) Even if Washington busts, you still have Chad Jackson. He is about as health as Brown (ie, not very). They will probably heal up at about the same time. Who are you going to keep? Troy Brown for what would definitely be his last season or Chad Jackson, a first round draft pick with lots of potential? The choice is obvious.

Sorry Troy. You deserve to be inducted in the Patriots Hall of Fame, but you don't deserve to make the roster.

Face it guys, Brown is done as a Patriots player.

I don't think Moss is a lock to make the team as well as Washington. I can see Jackson being put on the PUP and Gaffney not making the final cut as well. If Troy wants back he will be back at another wr's expense trust me.

I certainly hope there is a nice position for Troy in the franchise. No one deserves it more.

If it comes down to it, I'd rather have CJ on the team than Troy. Sacriledge, I know. There's a bigger payoff for him in having another year to get on the same page as Brady. The line about Troy always seemed to be that his familiarity with Brady made him the most dependable in clutch situations, but I think the AFCCG might have put that to rest.

We love you forever Troy, but I don't see where you fit right now.

Including knowledge of the system which CJ can only ever hope to master, rapore with the QB, confidence on ST, and capacity to play DB.

OK- here isa how it's going to go. Troy will be signed and then PUP'ed. If we should lose a reciever or one is not living up to expectations, he will be activated.

You know BB would never come out and say Troy is over the hill.

Troy will never play DB again. He was a liability, but we were very desperate that year. BB got plenty of "attaboys" for playing him both ways, just as he did for having Flutie make a successful drop kick and Vinnie extending his career TD streak. You won't see it again even if he makes the team, which he won't.

The place I would caution you is that the 4th and 5th WRs typically need to play on special teams. None of those 3 guys are considered very good ST players. Browon had always been a great ST player.

Chad Jackson is the 6th WR if there is one on the active roster. There is no way a Gaffney, Caldwell, or Washington would be kept in what is clearly a developmental role where the player would never be active. Most likely CJ starts on PUP and we carry 5 WRs.

Nope - Bill is the master of non-commital when he wants to be. He's not just paying him lip service, I've heard him and seen him answering that question now on a couple of occasions, and he's not dodging. Just because you see things differently than he does, doesn't mean you aren't just "out of touch" with the team, too.

There is a reason they don't let fans run these organizations. That said, he already has a lifetime job lined up after retirement with this organization, and it pays a lot more for a lot less hours and effort that assistant coaching.

Why do you have no faith in caldwell? He was great until the AFC championship game. And Gaffney is good, and showed signs of connecting well with brady, but right now, I would take Caldwell.

I don't see how there's any room for Troy Brown on this team. I hope we keep him in a coaching capacity, but I think he's done. Pats organization has never made personnel decisions by sentiment.

TB has said before....he doesn't want to coach.

Why do people think this is some kind of honor?

It's long hours,low pay and you get no recognition

Either TB will sign and go on PUP or he'll retire.

In Bill I trust... he said it, who am I to think diff. Yes, TB is one of my favorite players, YES, TB is "past his prime"... YES, you make good points... but at the end of the day, BB has been asked about this over and over again... and on at least two diff. occasions, he has said that there is a place on this team for TB.

I've got to think that, barring medical/health issues... TB is on the 53 man roster come Sept.

BB also told Bledsoe he would be given equal practice time when he was healthy again so that he could fairly compete for the starting job.

It didn't happen that way though did it? I'm not saying that BB made the wrong decision - to limit Bledsoe's practice time in order to properly prepare Brady. In fact, I agree with the decision entirely.

The point is that things change. Just because BB says something today doesn't mean he won't do the opposite later if it is the best thing for the team at that time.

he's versatile. he can play wr, db, and special teams. he might not excel at any one of them, but he can contribute to all three of them if needed. that is valuable.

oh, and he's an emergency quarterback. he does it all.
