Moss....illiterate???

For what its worth....

Was at a family gathering over the past weekend, and my cousin attended some recent charity event at which Kraft, Moss and other Pat's were in attendance. Colleague of his had purchased or participated in some type of raffle at this event, and Moss was brought up to podium to announce winner... and he couldn't read the name on the paper. Long pause, awkward silence, and then finally someone on Pat's staff figured it out and came to his aid. Moss was seen walking off stage and was upset. I guess it became pretty obvious he couldn't read....

Again, not saying this is 100% accurate, but my cousin and his colleague's aren't prone to spreading rumors. Anyone else out there hear anything about this or is this something that is already out there?

If its true, I feel bad for him...how embarrassing that must be.

Not that NCAA Division 1 schools expect too much studying from their student-athletes, it seems like one would at least have to know how to read to get into college - or high school for that matter! Could be he's dyslexic, but I doubt he's illiterate.

Edit: Why would he agree to announce the winner if he knew he couldn't read?

Kind of irresponsible post. Maybe he couldn't read the handwriting. Maybe it was a hard-to-pronounce Polish or Indian name. Maybe he hates the guy who won....

Given the above posts, however, I agree - it's unlikely he's illiterate.

Well, the schools are there to pick up the TEACHING that the Parents don't do or can't do when it comes to the basics. And, by schools, I mean from pre-schools on up.

Too many times, the schools systems here in the US don't teach kids how to LEARN. They teach them how to take tests. They don't proivide our kids with the necessary skills to excel. Just the skills to meet the average expectations. Unfortunately, the politicians want it that way so they can stay in power.

100% agree but when you go to the school and request that your child be kept back because you think she has missed the needed fundamentals/foundations for her education and they tell you that keeping her back is no longer an option in school I BLAME THE SCHOOL.

Been through it. Most involved parent you will ever meet.

Now she is struggling in High School because of the Elementary school's failure.

This was the guy's second post, made one hour after he joined the list. He talks about an unnamed event with no location or date, and talked about an unreported incident that Farah Fawcett Felger would have jumped all over, and you guys just grabbed the bait like fish.

It's funny because everyone says how California public schools are bad but everything said bad about schools doesn't apply to mine - maybe inner city schools are different when the kids don't give a crap and neither do the parents.

From my vantage point, I am amazed how fast they move and how well they keep up. Plus how well they have to read without the teacher considering holding them back. The public schools here might be an exception - and I've only experienced through 3rd grade so far - but from where I sit if you don't learn it's yours and your parents' fault; clearly.

Because they're the ones spending our tax dollars (which, given the size of those tax dollars over the last several decades, should have solved the problem several times over) to fund this slide into mediocrity.

That's why.

Why do you think home schooling is exploding in popularity today? Why do you think the idea of school vouchers is so controversial among our fearless leaders?

Because it's the schools!

It's not lack of money, it's not because of classroom accessorizing, it's the institutionalization of our kids that has become the problem.

I don't say this lightly. Most everyone on my wife's side is, or was, in education.

I know many fine teachers, but given the scope of the problem, they're swimming against the current.

That's just the way it is.
