Drew Bledsoe could be an option as a backup for the Saints, according to the Biloxi Sun Herald.

This is probably just speculation, but Bledsoe has ties to coach Sean Payton. Jamie Martin, 37, has failed to impress in offseason workouts. Undrafted rookie Tyler Palko and Jason Fife are New Orleans' other options currently. Bledsoe announced his retirement in April and didn't seem interested in backing up.

I think it would be cool to see Bledsoe back in his collegiate home state playing as backup for the Seahawks and Ironic it would be too because NE and Seattle were batting over Bledsoe and Mirer in the early 1990s,but I don't think Bledsoe nor Seattle have any interest nor do I think he would with the Saints.

Has anything changed from Bledsoe's perspective? For whatever reason I believed him when he said he didn't want to be a back-up, so why would he return the call of a team looking or a back-up QB?

This seems like baseless speculation.

I was shocked to see this headline as well, for two reasons......

1.) I was pretty sure Bledsoe did not want to hang around as a backup.
2.) He already has a ring as a backup, so what could he possibly have to gain from a backup role with the Saints?

Agree with TB'sG above. This looks like TOTAL speculation - and not from Bledsoe's camp. I, for one, would love to see the guy get one more shot at redemption. I just don't think he wants it. He had a very nice, eventful career and he played in two Super Bowls, and helped lead us to one - albeit not the one he played in. I love the guy, whatever he wants, he should get.

This is a very strange sounding rumor, difficult to believe that he will come out of retirement for a smaller salary.. he is used to the big bucks and the limelight, not sure what has changed here. This would seem out of character for him.

Gotta wonder who would even have Bledsoe on their fantasy football team at this point... though I suppose having him in a game does dramatically increase the number of sacks for the opposing defense.

I agree...I think it is a LONG STRETCH...he liked football, but it wasn't in his heart deeply...I think he knew his time was up...was not a starter and ddin't want to hang on.. I would beb very surprised if he signed...

Bledsoe will never play again. He has absolutely no desire to be a back up or fighting for a starting position. I think Bledsoe is happy just to move to Montana and leave football behind.

I'd go higher than that - but not as a backup.

No matter what the Bledsoe Bashers say he'd be desireable to many teams as a veteran backup, but Bledsoe's too proud to just be content to take hundreds of thousands of dollars to stand on the sidelines. You can't say that about a lot of QBs out there who have milked quite a few millions of dollars out of sticking around long after their time was up.

But if Bledsoe still has some passion to play, he can do what he can to stay in shape in case a team suffers QB injury in camp or in season.

In those situations where an inexperienced backup falters, a team could come calling to have Bledsoe step in.

All of that's still a longshot though - but there are a scenario or two where Bledsoe has an opportunity to start in the NFL.

Bledsoe has said in the past that he has no desire to be a back up or have to compete for a starting job. Bledsoe is content with all the money he has made and unless he can be annoited the starter somewhere when he arrives, I don't see him coming back.

My opinion has nothing to do with my opinions of Bledsoe, but what he has said in the past and he is a man of his word. Word out of Dallas last year was that he was not happy being benched and that if he was benched before the season started last year, he would have retired then.

Once he realized the job was now Brady's to lose, the only glimmer of interest you saw from Drew was when Brady's ankle bent and he gleefully retook the field (I recall how he told reporters that he dreamed of coming in and winning the game - which means he dreamed Brady would fail and we'd be behind or he'd be hurt...). And then typically made the same old mental mistakes he always did. Luckily for us that day it didn't take much to beat Slash and Co. because they were beating themselves like our 12th player that day in the process. In Buffalo and Dallas once he again slid down the depth chart he opted out.

Drew isn't a student of the game, just a tall guy with a strong arm who likes to play it on Sundays. If he can't play, he has no interest in going through the motions. I could see him un-retiring in the pre season or even in season depending on the team and offense, but only if a starter goes down and his backup proves totally incompetent and they don't want to play fold for draft position.

There have been/are some desperate teams out there this season, and he apparently hasn't gotten a sniff. I think his benching in Dallas by his mentor, and the way he handled himself in that aftermath, pretty much eliminated him from consideration by any team this season who would afterall only want him as a bridge or stop gap and wouldn't want to deal with him when he sours.

BS. He was fine with Brady when he was s 6th rounder who showed promise as a backup. I guarantee you though that given his druthers Drew would never have moved him past Huard who was his wingman. Drew was a big part of the entitlement culture BB had to stamp out here. You play because you earn the spot through your performance. Brady was so outperforming him in 2001 the decision was a no brainer on the merits, which is how BB makes those decisions. The team could have given him every rep from the first Rams game to the next Rams game and all it would have accomplished is hurting Brady and the team - Drew still would have been the same player he was prior to that fateful JETS game. And I believe Drew long ago clarified his remarks to indicate while he felt he was lied to, he never was in so many words.

His relationship with Brady was more a testament to the kid's poise and maturity and determination than anything on Drew's part.

He had no interest in Loseman when he was in Buffalo, let alone any desire to compete with him for a job. That was just Drew exit speak for I got screwed by a FO again. Had no use for Romo either - after all in Drewspeak this was his Tuna reunion tour (featuring Terry Glenn) where he was going to prove how wrong everyone had been about him in NE and Buffalo, and how wrong he had been earlier about Tuna. How'd that work out? His career ended on national TV at Parcells hand. Drew termed that decision "a mistake", and refused to even function as the backup thereafter. That was an appropriate ending to the urban legend of Drew as the team guy, along with Parcell's following him to pasture several weeks later. They were both egocentric personalities to whom the game mattered little unless they were front and center in it.

Wow You seem to have alot of resentment for Drew Bledsoe I hold no ill will towards the man Sure Brady is the best but Drew was pretty damn good in his prime.
I think the thing that held drew's potential back is he was too ****y I doubt he ever worked on fundamentals of the game pry wasn't as much as a video junky as tom learning every tendency of every player.
One thing Drew had was toughness that was one touch sob no matter what anyone say's and everyone wants to play and start.
When you were a little kid playing peewee ball if you were told to sit on the bench cause the new guy is a little better would you route the team on still or would you be bitter having that fun, power and excitement taken from you.
Remember we always say wr's are colorful personalities the same can be said about QB's Look at your Brett Favres and Mcnabb's Brady is just the shining exception and god am i glad he's a pat!
