I have six developmental players making the team. I understand that rooks could beat out vets, but these positions are their best shot. Meriweather and Brown are locks.

TE/RB Mills
(position could be filled by 3rd QB, 6th WR or 5th RB)
DT Smith
(Moore is at his heels)
LB/ST Alexander, Woods, Mays
(one spot could/should be filled by a free agent)
ST/Player 53 Andrews
(this gunner position could be filled by anyone)

I think Oscar Lua might give May a run for his money.

Agreed there. All indications are that Lua is looking like he could definitely contribute this year. I'd love to see Mills get a shot as well.

I don't want either Alexander or Mays on the 53. But if forced to choose, I would take Mays, because I have an idea what Alexander's ceiling is. Mays still needs to cut down his ST penalties.

why u so down on Alexander..how many non experienced players can come in and do well verse the Colts? Hes fast ..big and he made some big hits. coverage is very tough when your inexperienced and going against the top offensive threat..

Could Washington be the gunner?

Q: Have the Patriots talked to you about being a gunner on special teams?

KW: Again, you look at the personnel there at the Patriots, there are guys there who do anything to win and that's something that if that is what they want me to do, that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to go in there and bust my tail, work special teams, work on the offensive side of the ball, just do whatever to help the team win and that's my whole mentality and I believe I started that mentality at a young age. I can't wait to get up there and get working with Tom and get acclimated with the receivers and the quarterbacks there and just get into that team concept that the Patriots do so well when they bring guys in. There are a lot of guys up there who have different roles and they fulfill that role and it's all about team up there and that's what's so special about the Patriots.

That said, if Belicheck keeps a player for the gunner spot, that player won't be Washington. He is not an ST standout like Andrews.

I want to believe that Lua or even Mays can step up, but then again I want to believe lots of stuff.. I hope one of these guys can step and become heir apparent to some of our older LB's...

Frezo has it right. The Alexander/Woods/Mays group are all up for grabs. Woods and Mays have PS eligability left but I' don't know if they would make it past Mangini and company. I'm really pulling for Mills but it's hard to see what his role is going to be.

how big is alexander? he's listed at 6-2, 240, but in the colts game he looked to me to be more like 220. he got used by ol' peyton, but most ILBs do. he looks to me to be trade fodder. i'd certainly send him to the texans, titans, packers, vikes, or 49ers for a 4th or 5th round pick.
'course, that depends on how good rogers and lua look in TC.
