Re: Patriots sign WR C.J. Jones

The per dium is $4000. a week through the end of august. nice pocket change for the kid.
Plus for the rest of his life he can tell stories of playing with Brady, Moss, Seymour, etc.

Re: Patriots sign WR C.J. Jones

yea, if you can bring in a guy who can learn stuff pretty fast, this is the year to do it.

Re: Patriots sign WR C.J. Jones

Opportunities for young receivers with Practice Squad eligibility are not to be sneezed at. The kid has been on the edge of things and keeps working at it, who knows what will be possible if he can earn a PSquad berth and works hard behind these better known receivers who may not be here next season. Welcome aboard kid, kick some butt and learn from the best!
I agree...competing with Bam, Kelvin Chris and Jonathon...

Re: Patriots sign WR C.J. Jones

LOL Why do this to someone?

Look we are going to sign you but you have 0% chance of making this team.

Jones: What about on special teams?

Team: What part of 0% wasnt clear?

He has every chance in the world to make another team roster by having a good showing here...

...and as of June 7th, there's no one who has a 0% chance to make the roster... anything can happen including good trades where we use some of our WR depth to address other areas of need, and God forbid, injuries.

Re: Patriots sign WR C.J. Jones

Quite right. We always have room for 2 wide receivers on the Practice Squad, as long as they are solid special teamers. He is competing with Kight and Childress.

Re: Patriots sign WR C.J. Jones

I thought we have a oversupply of wide receivers, but i'm thinking that maybe he was brought in to compete for kick/punt returns and special teams. His bio says that he was a first team all american return specialist at junior college so maybe he could compete for that role here.

Re: Patriots sign WR C.J. Jones

whats the big deal about him signing if he has no chance? He gets a chance to meet some great players..learn from a great organization and get some quality coaching while he can. i know it doesnt seem like a big deal but these things can help the kid a lot more than if went to a crap team and still didnt make it

Re: Patriots sign WR C.J. Jones

To me it's very possible that we're looking at switching him to cornerback.

 If that were the case what would keep them from just signing a CB? That would make a lot more sense.

Re: Patriots sign WR C.J. Jones

I don't get it.
they need bodies to run routes until jackson and brown are training camp ready

NFL.com wire reports

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (June 7, 2007) -- The New England Patriots signed wide receiver C.J. Jones after he spent the past two regular seasons out of football.

Jones originally signed with Cleveland in May 2003 as an undrafted free agent from Iowa but spent 11 games on the inactive list and the other five weeks on the practice squad. He was on the Browns' practice squad for the entire 2004 season.

He had 10 catches in NFL Europa in the spring of 2005, but was cut by Cleveland before the 2005 opener and by Seattle in last year's training camp.

Re: pats sign cj jones...

did you even read the topics on the first page???

The Pats are just having a look.
Doesn't hurt them since I'm sure it's pretty low cost.
You never know, sometimes these no name guys turn out to become solid fits for your system.
After saying that I'll admit he probably has a very low chance of making the roster.
