per PFT report of NFL executives speculating that Culpepper could land in New England

"SEVERAL TEAMS NOT KEEN ON 'PEPPER

Though the identity of the teams interested in quarterback Daunte Culpepper isn't known, Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that several squads have indicated that they aren't interested in acquiring his services.

The Bears, Vikings, Falcons, Giants, and Raiders are in the "no, thanks" club.

NFL personnel execs have speculated that the Jaguars, Pats, Rams, and Lions could be interested."

They're probably basing this on two things: 1) people think we're they new redskins and we sign anyone and everyone (this is of course not true)
2) the reunion between moss and culpepper (again i doubt this would ever happen)

it's the offseason things are slow

He's big enough to play ILB.

I'm sorry but this is a joke.

Do they really think Belichick would give up a draft pick for a third string QB? Seriously.

I don't know with Vinny, 'Pepper, Cassel, and Brady we'd be looking at the deepest QB core ever. I'm all for it.

QB isn't like wide receiver.

Depth isn't very important.

If you have a good starter and a good backup then you are in a lucky spot.

Any team is pretty much screwed if they loose their starter and back up. That's just how it is.

And I don't think Culpepper is even a good back up QB at this point.

This is just stupid. I think PFT is going to throw just about every team out there and then say that they got it right first. Next you will see them saying the Jets are interested.

I can see PFT mentioning the Pats because of Moss but who in their right mind thinks Culpepper would unseat Brady in order for that to happen? BTW,wasn't there a story a few years back about how Moss felt like Culpepper really wasn't the friend to him that Culpepper said he was? I remember their relationship going under the microscope a few years back and Moss not being too happy with Culpepper.

Sounds like the old spaghetti theory, throw it against the wall see if it sticks, if it does it is done... will believe this when I see it, makes no sense..

Personally, I don't see any chance this happens. IMHO, he isn't resigned to a backup role so he won't go somewhere with no chance of starting (barring injury). Plus I think he would want more money than NE would offer.

It has also been mentioned on Sirius NFL Radio today - Would it come from the same source? - Don't know

It almost makes me think that someone is involving the Patriots to give legitimacy to a player that has very little trade value right now.

On this team even a third stringer has to be able to read defenses and make good decisions. Just ask Rohan.

Culpepper and Moss had quite the falling out and calling out as I recall, which in part precipitated Moss's demands to be traded. The Vikings apparently felt the QB was the one to invest in. As I recall, some felt Culpepper went on a little bit of a vendetta intent on proving Randy was not what made him. And it didn't go well. And his career went down hill from there. Randy has spoken kindly of him since, but I doubt he wants to locker with him.

The only way BB would take this on is if he felt he could rehab the players rep sufficiently to flip him for value. But he's likely got a lot more on his plate to deal with than to take on that circus task this season.

This is likely just one more example of league sources not really understanding what this team or it's system or this HC are really all about. Hey, NE doesn't have a 3rd... and that kid who never played in college is their backup! I really doubt we carry a 3rd QB again this season, possibly adding Vinny late if there's room. Culpepper wouldn't make the roster, and since he still hasn't passed a physical he'd be difficult to gauge or tutor or flip from the PUP. He's of no functional use to us on the field.

No truer words have been spoken. It's the off season, mini camps are over, the legion of scribes needs something . . . anything . . .

The other was the questionable rumor about the Jets and Samuel. His agent has indicated that there has been no contact with the Jets . . .

That's all the JAGS would need - to add Culpepper to the mix between the newly svelt Leftwich and his nemesis Garrard... Byron would implode. They would fit the profile of not wanting interest leaked. Maybe the assistant HC in Tennessee is lobbying for his old pal as a mentor and emergency backup for their ROY QB. Maybe the Ravens are interested in some injury protection heading into McNairs second season. Oddly the Bears were among the first to cry no mas - lest Rex stranglehold on the position be weakened. Herm??? He's fielding a career backup or a rookie at present.

Schefter said last night that there were three teams interested and they all requested annonymity. That would indicate they have questionable starters and are fearful of upsetting someone's apple cart by even hinting interest in Daunte. We don't fit that profile unless we're concerned about upsetting Vinny.

wow this thread got taken way more seriously than I thought it was. I just posted it cuz it was Pats related, but I thought no way in heck it would happen. Plus, it's not PFT saying it would happen, it was PFT quoting NFL excutives saying that 'Pepper would go to the Pats.

Houston better get on the phone and cross their fingers because Matt Shaub isn't the most experienced quarterback out their and the last thing they need is more criticism from the media (especially after not picking Bush and now trading for an unproven QB).

C'Pep brings nothing to the Pats unless he has Cameron's playbook with him. Wouldn't mind sticking it to the Dolphins twice a year with a bit of help. Hey, they seemed to have had help when they beat the Pats last year (blocking schemes).

PFT first mentioned this yesterday. Basically, they listed every team without a veteran backup signed as "a possibility".

I would rather have vinny or another veteran. I don't want one that might want a starters job.

What are we gonna do with Daunte?
Nope! Don't need him.
Those guys must be passing some gas cause this has no chance of happening.
