Paul Oliver to enter Supplemental draft.......
(from the war room)...Georgia CB Paul Oliver, recently rated by the War Room Report as one of the top prospects for the 2008 NFL Draft, has announced he will enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, after being declared ineligible for his senior season at Georgia because of academics.

I've been reading a few pages / blogs that Oliver could be a target for the Patriots in the July Supplemental draft.......??

anyone have some insight into this........and how the supplemental draft works....and is this a good move,,,,,,,,,thanks palm beach barry

There is a whole thread on him in the draft forum. What pages have you been reading that indicate this? Source(s) please.

Do you have a website name or link to this story?

They should take with their oakland pick in the 3rd

Just a few 2008 mock draft sites

2008 Mock Draft (UPDATED 5/17): Round 1 / Round 2/ Round 3
2008 NFL Draft Prospects (UPDATED 5/16)
Other 2008 Mock Drafts: Craig Smith

not sure if there just guessing or what....but i was wondering how the supplemental draft works.....

He'd be worth a 2nd rounder in the supplemental draft, I think. He'd definitely be a top 20 pick or so next year, and the Patriots 2nd rounder may as well be in the 3rd round.

First a draft order is determined.

The first six places are determined by a lottery between the six teams with the worst records in 2006.

The next 14 places are determined by a lottery between all the remaining 2006 non-playoff teams.

The final 12 places are determined by a lotter between all the 2006 playoff teams.

A list of supplemental draft players is published.

Each team secretly submits a list of the players they wish to take and the round in which they are prepared to take them.

The team which bids the highest round for a player, gets that player but loses the corresponding 2008 draft pick.

In the event of a tie, the team with the highest place in the draft order wins.

Has anybody used a first round pick in the supplemental draft since Kosar?

If this guy really is clear 2008 first round material, and BB believes that he could start for us, then the Patriots (with our guaranteed low first round pick in 2008) could and probably should take him with a first round bid. (If he's clear first round material, then some other team will probably take him with a second before we get a chance to do so.)

This would be true even if Asante had already signed the Franchise tender.

The thing is, Oliver would probably have been a first rounder had he come out this year. He was rated at least as high as Revis amongst underclassmen as far as defensive backs go, before all-star games and whatnot. Of course, this was a weak draft anyways, and next year's is far deeper, but you never know.

Most people think he would have been around a 3rd rounder. The talent of supplemental guys tends to be overstated . . . regardless, if we trade Samuel this guy has to be of some interest.
