No Samuel at Hill's wake or funeral

That really bothers me.

This is starting to look more and more like the Branch situation. I hope they don't cave and trade him.

Why not trade him. They could get more than he's worth.

1. I don't want to give into him.

2. A draft pick wouldn't help us this year. We got more than Deion was worth but it is also possible that we didn't make the Superbowl last year because the lack of a receiving threat. Was it worth it?

Do you spend 14+ hours a day during camps with your current co-workers? Its a bit different when you are a part of a football team. You can't really compare your work situation to that of a football team.

As BB said, the attitude they've taken is one of FAMILY. Not co-workers.

Not all players are family, though. A football team is like any other office. You have your friends, and then guys who are little more than acquaintances. Guys are from all over the country, and are all different ages. The notion that pro players are out hanging together all the time is wrong. While I personally would've gone, I don't fault him if he wasn't a friend of Hill's. There were plenty of guys on our team at Michigan that I wasn't anything more than a casual acquaintance of, and others that were great friends of mine.

Coaches say that a team is a family. It doesn't mean everyone is best friends.

I don't want to see this ******* scumbag back on this team. He doesn't have what it takes to be a Patriot anymore.

I hear what you're saying but from what I've heard it sounds like Samuel was pretty much the only Patriot (at least the ones who were on the team last year) that didn't go. It would be one thing if a bunch of players didn't go, but am I to believe that every other player was close with Hill except Samuel?

Maybe I am wrong but that is how I interpreted it.

If he wasn't there, then just let him go, no one would want such a self-centered person.

Pretty lame response, Dabooze........there are alot of professions out there which require co-workers to spend "14+ hours a day" with one another....

Pretty lame excuse for this piece of **** not to show up to the funeral of one of his own.

The fact that he didn't go with the team is not news. We all knew that a few days ago.

I would not be so quick to through dirt at him unless we have postive proof that he did not go on his own. Just because this report says a couple of people didn't see him, At The Funeral, is not positive proof that he didn't go there and pay his respects.

Its all over the media who probably had hundreds of cameras filming throughout the entire wake/burial ceremony,We are talking about an NFL player who instantly gets media full blown attention.

Don't you think a camera would have gotten a glimpse of Asante if he were there at any time during this?

Talk about being Naive

I have no doubts if it was Deion Branch in the same time a year earlier,he would have gone - Deion has a heart..Asante does not,Hes a jerk...

GET THE F**K OUT OF FOXBORO ASANTE!!!

I wasn't aware he was related to Hill.

He was a TEAMmate for crying out loud

You mean to tell me if Tom Brady died tomorrow and Richard Seymour or Bill Belichick did not attend any burial service,it would be O.K. in the eyes of any Patriot fan?

I am a Pats fan, it wouldn't matter to me if that happened.

Then you are probably the only one of Patriots fans that it would not bother if it happened.

Samuel is NOT part of this team. He is a free agent, who ahs been franchised by the patriots.

Really doesn't matter to me. He was his teammate for 3 years. That piece of **** couldn't show a bit of decency?

A key point, I think -- is it true? What about other guys who, like Samuel, were on the roster last year but not this year so couldn't just hop the company charter straight from OTAs? Was TBC there? Graham? If not, I don't want to disparage Samuel's character.

Dave -
Please don't put words in my mouth. I said nothing about what they do in their free time. I was referring to how much time these guys spend at practice and such during the week, reviewing films and working in the weight rooms.

In 2000, a co-worker's son died (at 17 years old) in a car accident. I didn't know him all that well, but I still went to the wake to pay my respects to him and his mother. I wasn't great friends with here. She was just a co-worker, but, the day I left, she congratulated me and thanked me for being there during her time of need.

Little things like that go a long way. And, to me, Samuel was being selfish by not going, if he, indeed, did not show up. Hill was a team mate for 3 years and, while they may not have been best friends, they were still on the same defensive unit. And that should have meant something.

Samuel is NOT part of this team. He is a free agent, who ahs been franchised by the patriots.

He CANNOT go out and just join any team right now...He DOES NOT control what or where he can play this year - He is under the ownership and mercy of the Patriots organization until THEY DECIDE,NOT SAMUEL of what they want to do with him

That makes him a part of the Patriots organization technically.

Hes a TRUE FREE Agent WHEN THE patriots say he is free to go-otherwise he sits out of football and is at the mercy of this teams FO

Saying he is not part of the team and is just a free agent really means nothing to his options,He has none except to sit.

You're quite right. Samuel's behavior is deplorable, but it has nothing to do with whether Samuel is a patriot.

Really doesn't matter to me. He was his teammate for 3 years. That piece of **** couldn't show a bit of decency?

The patriots can't do anything either, except release him. There is a deadlock until Week Ten, at which point Samuel and the team will again have choices. The is what it is. Almost everyone has the right to free agency after four years and after fulfilling the terms of their contracts. If he wants to leave, sitting out is his best shot. Risking injury is not.
