I don't see this as a big deal - Losing rights to get a veteran inside linebacker would have been 1,000x more depressing.

Adams would have been a nice addition to the Pats. Was he a critical addition? No. Just a nice addition who probably wanted more than nice additions typically deserve. He'd have been a hedge against fatigue, injury and performed well as a backup for NT and DT in a 4-3.

I'd prefer they put their cap money toward signing Samuel and work on developing Le Kevin Smith & Kareen Brown.

I would much rather see us develop one of the young guys in case Wilfork decides to walk after 2009.

There is something to be said for development, but the coaching staff evidently did not see enough from LeKevin Smith to get him on the field, and Wilfork was flat on his back in Indianapolis when Addai ran in for 6 at the end of the Championship game. They can win without him, but I think run stuffers add a lot (Ted Washington sure did), and I would have liked to have had him.

There is something to be said for development, but the coaching staff evidently did not see enough from LeKevin Smith to get him on the field, and Wilfork was flat on his back in Indianapolis when Addai ran in for 6 at the end of the Championship game. It's not a given he'll start here either. He has a better chance with thr Broncos than the Pats, but Mike Shanahan finally addressed DL in the draft and free agency, so he's not as badly needed as popular opinion may indicate.

That's why it's called development and not instant starter. LeKevin was a late round pick. His rookie was was a bit soon to beat out our current starters/backups at a very deep position.

2007/2008 will tell if LeKevin has something or not.

Meantime, I'm happy with not adding Adams. Our projeteed 53-man roster does not have a lot od deadwood. We'd have to get rid of someone I'd rather not lose at this point unless it is for a great CB or ILB or backup RB.

Denver's been very active this offseason and making some good signings.I don't know how much Adams has left,but Denver keeps stacking. They're always a tough team for us,and some of their moves could make it even a little tougher.

Maybe so but if we face them it won't be till the playoffs are in swing,Luckily the regular season in 2007 is bronco free for the Pats.

Denver and San Diego should be a great battle for supremacy in the AFC West-They are both elite superb teams.

Yes, indeed, a one year contract with a "modest" signing bonus is a truckload of cash...

He may start in name, but I honestly kind of doubt he'll play nearly as much as he did last year with the Bengals. You can bet that the Broncos will want Marcus Thomas to have a considerable amount of playing time. Sam Adams may see 15 snaps a game. I think we're going to have five or six defensive tackles on the roster this year.

I think the reason he chose Denver over new England is that he likes our defensive line coach, Bill Johnson, and our scheme fits his strengths better than yours does. We basically just need him to be fat. Occupy blocks. That's it. He can also mentor our young defensive lineman. He's also after another ring, and he's got a good chance of getting one here. IMO, our team is the most talented it's been since we won our last Superbowl. Our division is gonna get interesting, especially if Oakland gets an offense to go with that stingy defense.

Read the rest of my post. He thinks we have a good chance, and we do, lest you forget that the Patriots still have to win the Lombardi the media is handing them, and likely get past the Broncos (something they've had trouble with in the past) to do it. Our scheme better fits his needs at this point in his career. He knows our coaching staff, and he can play as part of a rotation. It's a good situation for both parties. We're paying the vet minimum I believe, so we don't have much to lose.


Also, is you username an obscure Office reference? I would pretty much love you forever if it was.
