King rips the Pats (again)

Im glad he is not picking the Pats, the last 2 yrs, they have not made the super bowl.. The last time he did not pick the pats, he picked Jax vs Seattle , the Pats played the eagles in that super bowl.. King is a guy who thinks he is still relevent, but I think I like to hear what Adam Shefter has to say rather than him..

I like King a lot. So I hate to rip him. But he really needs to look at the 2nd half tape before he starts talking about the Patriots' defense not being able to get off the field at key times and see who was on the field. Forgetting whether the excuses are valid or not, adding Harrison, Wilson, Meriweather, Gay, Seau, Colvin back onto the field and replacing TBC with Adalius Thomas might make JUST A LITTLE bit of difference.

But let's be honest guys, we do need to prove that we can stop the Colts' underneath passing game and crossing routes. We're just too slow in the middle of the field.

Then add in:

A Seymour that didn't get injured on the first play
A Wilfork that didn't have the flu
Mike Wright
James Sanders
Artrell Hawkins

And just for ha ha's, one would think that a running game might help the defense, so add in Faulk, a healthy Maroney and {that other guy whose name escapes me right now}.

Judging that NE team based on the second half is no more relevent than wondering whether Indy's offense is in trouble since they only scored 21 total points in 6 consecutive quarters (Balt game and first half of NE game).

One thing about the Pats' 2nd-half performance that goes unmentioned is that it was almost exactly like their 2nd-half performance against Indy in 2003. We got out to a big lead (21 pts), but our offense only scored 14 2nd-half pts and our D came within a yard of allowing 31 2nd-half points. One play was the difference between those 2 games.

Clearly Belichick disagrees.

And I think not having Harrison, Wilson, or Seau, and having a sick Bruschi and an Artrell Hawkins who had to leave the game part way through because of exhaustion had something to do with it.

Seems that all Mr. Know-it-all can use as an excuse for not picking the Pats is one bad half of football. Gee, I wonder how the Colts were picked year-in and year-out after their playoff blunders:

If you think that's King ripping the Pats you may need to thicken your skin up a little bit.

He admitted that San Diego, Indy, and the Pats (not in any order) are the three best teams in the league. He also acknowledged that we've had the best offseason since the Packers in 1993.

The only thing he did was bring to light one reason why he thought the defending champs had a better chance to make it to the Super Bowl. You may not agree with the reason (I don't), but it's hardly King "ripping" us. Especially given his self-deprecating admission in the beginning of the article about his ability to pick Super Bowl winners.

Is any writer who doesn't crown us the Champion in the offseason a hater? I think you need to relax a little bit.

Ditto.

How exactly did he "rip" the Pats?

Trying to muster up the "no respect" card?

Tired of all the fanfare surrounding your team? Trying to drum up some support for little 'ol Pats??

Ha ha!

You guys are top three, you had a horrible second half, regardless of any circumstances. He speaks the truth. Plus, why WOULD you want him to select the Pats?

Get over yourself (richpats).

See you in November ;)

It's not thin skin, it's just a weak arguement he's making. If he wanted to make it while mentioning all the returnees and Thomas on Defense and say it won't be enough fine. But to just reference that game without mentioning that half the defense wasn't on the field makes me think he isn't even aware that the real Patriots largely weren't on the field for the second half.

Colts back to back? I doubt it. Pats all the way. He can talk all about the yards he wants in the 2nd half. We only lost by 4 in Indy. What about Indy's defense? Are we to expect another miracle play off run by them? I doubt it.

Everyone should be ecstatic King is off the Pats' bandwagon. His good-will is the kiss of death. I feel relieved and I plan on wagering twice as much as last season on the Pats as a result. The reverse hex has been lifted!

Exactly, couple that with some weird commentary after the AFCCG - "mortality tastes sour, doesn't it (New England)?" Sounds like he's either bitter at NE or full-on the Manning bandwagon, probably a little of both.

I have to agree with the last few posts. King did not really rip any team. He raised concerns about NE and his concerns were founded on facts. In the 2 Colts/Pats games last year we did not stop their offense.

I think it is OK if a reporter does not pick us to win the SB. It certainly does not make them the enemy.

What King did say was that NE was one of the top 3 teams in the NFL and could be considered the best. That is definitely not a rip.

It's a prediction, he's not ripping the team. Just because everyone here is so ready to put the trophy on the mantle, doesn't mean that everyone is going to agree with it. I'm actually kind of glad that some people are predicting that others are going to win it all. Less pressure.

I like King and his writing... but not surprisingly I don't think much of his ability to assess and make predictions in this case.

I don't think King would necessarilly disagree with my assessment - after all he's the one who calls his column "Monday Morning Quarterback"

King is one of the best at his profession. To take offense simply because he picked two teams other than New England for the SB is being thin skinned.

I understand his logic. I don't have to agree. However, there's a lot that can happen between now and the beginning of the season, between the beginning of the season and the playoffs, and between the beginning of the playoffs and the Superbowl. The best team on paper today (whoever it is) can end up being very different in November. Things can change in a heartbeat. That's why the play the games.

In no way did he rip the Pats. And the bottom line is that most of us usually liked it better when the Pats were not the overwhelming favorites. I actually like this in light of the positive press they've been getting. Let's hope King starts a trend. Harrison and team can use the ammunition.

I enjoy King as well, but he has rarely missed a chance to put down Randy Moss so far this offseason. (and thus the Pats) "Beating a dead horse" is the phrase that comes to mind.

King has been digging at the Pats ever since January.

Find yourself a board that wants you (He Ban Me).

See, I put you in (here) because I was intially responding to a different poster. Only at the end did I have a message specific to you.

Now, when you are actually responding to MY post, then your remark to me is implied, the no ( ) necessary ;)

Find yourself a board that wants you? Uhh, ok?
