I just wanted to change the subject.

Bottom line, I expect two more free agents, one at LB and one at RB. This sixth lienbacker won't get many reps, but this will allow us to understand that we have two linebacker squads, with a gulf between the players and the developmental players.

I don't expect more than two rookies to make this squad. My last cuts are James, Mills and Hawkins. While I have Samuel on my roster, and Gay making it through without injuries, I think both are just wishful thinking.

If this squad stays healthy (with the two additions), it is by far the strongest talent we've ever had.

Difficult to argue with much although I expect James and Gay to both make the team.

Somewhat related - I still don't like the depth at NT too much - although I'm happy with the SF #1 next year I would have been quite happy taking Alan Branch at #28.

I think they will carry six receivers.

But damn, the preseason can't come fast enough.

Where's Troy Brown?

The roster should be increased to 57.

I would like to see James and Gay make the team. I agree with regard to Branch. He was a high school basketball player, who returned 5 punts for touchdowns! bb must have seen something he didn't like. Branch certainly seemed to have been the value pick.

Only one rookie makes the team?

He has Meriweather and Brown (who are locks) plus Lua as a possibility - presumably others would make the Practice Squad.

I think Gafney (or however you spell it) is ahead of caldwell

Good list. There is some serious depth in TC this year. Makes me less worried about injuries this preseason.

Looks like Brown is best suited for PUP.

You know that teams are going to be trolling the waters just waiting to snatch up our leftovers. There are going to be some pretty good players who aren't going to make them team.

I hope G.Mills sticks with the team,I have a feeling he could be a solid contributer if he stays healthy....

We should probably start a poll of how many players of ours the Jets will pick up :D

I don't know why, but something tells me Testiverde comes back at some point this year. Whose place he takes is anyone's guess.

Just a thought.

Considering he is working out with the team there is a good chance he does.

When you read this roster, this team is deep in all areas, some are stronger than others, but aside from that this would appear on paper to be the deepest and best balanced team that the Pats have ever fielded. There are too many variables to be discussing SB right now, but on paper they look great.

Thanks for this -- you're right. Without disrespect, some substantive football discussion is the right thing now.

To me, only cornerback, nose tackle and (perhaps) the interior of the OL look less than very strong at present. Of course, some people will talk about how the Patriots will be cutting outstanding players and other teams will be fighting over the leftovers, but, sadly, we know that there will be training camp attrition. There'll be room for Troy.

Who are the two Jacksons on PUP, though?

My upset pick is that Baugher will beat out Miller at punter.

Chad Jackson (U of Florida) - Knee injury

Michael Jackson (Bring'em Young) - nose, face and head injuries
