personally i like his re-signing

One ERFA to go, Antwain Spahn. Then, more important business

to sign our draft choices and perhaps re-sign Asante Samuel to

a long term contract. The latter won't happen until July 14th

at the earliest.

I thought it HAD to happen by then, that after July 15 he could NOT be signed to a long term contract but would be limited to the one-year franchise tag.

How many years is a player a ERFA?? Just curious as he has been in the league since 04.....like Mrucz...who was in the NFL (on IR) in 03.. OR is it ties to games?? OR x amount of games being a year..just curious.
I like the signing as well..I think there's a reason he''s around and it MAY be his year of getting into the rotation.

An ERFA has to have less than 3 accrued seasons in the NFL.

To accrue a season, a player must be on the 53-man roster or injured reserve for at least 6 games. PUP, NFI, or the other lists don't count.

To earn an accredited season, which determines a player's minimum salary, he must be on the 53-man roster for at least 3 games. IR, PUP, NFI, or the other lists don't count.

NFL.com player pages are a good source to find accrued seasons (just subtracted whatever years pro number they give by 1). However, for players that were on the IR last year but not the 53-man roster for 6 games, NFL.com has yet to give those players accrued seasons. There are multiple other players whose numbers are also off slightly.

Thanks....
According to all the info I have....it would be TWO seasons for both.....

Last year he was on the 53...and in 05 he was on the PSqd almost entirely..I believe one game appearnce on the 53

In 04, 3 games on the 53 3 games IR (I am assuming that playoff games are included when one mentions games...)
So two years accrued and accredited.

I love all these announcements that they've resigned players that I thought were already signed with the team. I thought he and Gay were already resigned months ago.:bricks:

In theory, yes. None of the ERFAs were going anywhere, as the Pats obviously tendered all of them.

Gay was tendered in March but didn't accept it until this week.
