This is a really hard one because there are 6 who should be there, but lets try to push it into 5. no particular order

montana
marino
manning
elway
brady

favre seems like he should be on there as much as anyone else, but i dont know who should be dropped. i dont think anyone is more or less deserving.

Hello, how about Bart Star and Johnny Unitas? I would agree with Montana, Manning and Brady, but would put these two on the list.

Of course every single Pats fan is going to say Tom Brady, but he definitely doesn't belong on that list. And Mosi, how you gonna leave off Marino? That's just hilarious!

This is tough.. but have to put Marino on the second tier as he never won a SB, there are a lot close Staubach, Elway etc. In no particular order:

Starr
Unitas
Montana
Manning
Brady

To funny. Because he made mediocre teams playoff teams, that makes him a worse QB? Pretty sure it's a team game and there are 53 players responsible for wins and losses. Leaving Marino out of the top 5 is just dumb.

Brady and Manning over Marino? Hilarious!

Most people don't actually contradict themselves in the same post. If it's a team game, with 53 players responsible for wins and losses, how is it that one player made "mediocre teams playoff teams"?

You can't compare Manning and Brady to the others people have listed (except for Favre), without projecting out for thier entire careers. If they both continue on thier current pace, they with both in all likelyhood eclipse Marino on the all time list.

Just curious, isn't there some kind of fins board out there somewhere you can spread your bs or at least have a ***********?? .. btw did you ever pay off your debt??

(Wasn't logged in so unfortunately Aqua's drivel didn't get ignored.)

Marino never embraced the film work/preparation aspect of the game and therefore often struggled against great defenses, particularly in the playoffs. This also negatively affected the running game in Miami, to which he never paid much attention. He may have been the most talented QB ever to play. He could have been one of the truly great QBs, but ultimately wasn't.

Dolphins fans are loathe to recognize this for obvious reasons--it's kind of pathetic that he could have been so much better if he had been as committed on Tuesdays as he was on Sundays.

In order

1 Unitas
2 Montana
3 Brady
4 Elway
5 Staubach
6 Bradshaw
7 Marino
8 Tarkington
9 Starr
10 Manning

I know it was 5 ,but too many to choose from ..

I have to disagree about the preparation aspect regarding Marino. I have heard Scott Zolak compare Marino and Bledsoe many times as far as preparation. He says it's not even close. And this coming from a guy who was friends with Bledsoe.

What was Bledsoe's preparation like?

You have Staubach and Elway rated too highly, and Marino too low. Marino really was an incredible QB. I'm going by skill, and the ability not to choke.

1. Montana
2. Marino
3. Unitas
4. Graham (the guy had incredible touch)
5-6. Brady/Manning (the story isn't written here yet, Brady has better pocket presence than anyone in history, except Montana, maybe Marino--Manning can throw really well, but gets happy feet and panics. If he had guts, he'd rocket to just below Marino. I still think Marino throws a better ball than Manning.)
7. Favre (Has become a shadow of himself for the last third of his career, but threw lasers with accuracy for a while).
8. Elway (great QB, but for 10 years he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn from 10 yards out. The most inaccurate big game QB I've ever seen. Used to turf the ball regularly. Great arm though).
9-10. Aikman and Bradshaw (winners!)

Honorable mentions:

Fouts, Tarkington and Starr (put-put QBs, short throws)
Staubach
Kelly and Moon (put up the stats, no championships)

I won't chime in on Brady because I am obviously biased, but considering Manning has put up bigger statistical seasons than Marino and has won a championship isn't he clearly better than Marino?

The only advantage Marino has over Manning is that he played more seasons, which isn't Mannings fault since he's still playing.

Feel free to argue Marino's place is history, but deriding the opinion that Manning is better makes you look a little foolish. At worst it's debatable.

Marino really was an incredible QB.
There is more to being a QB than passing the football. You can measure how good a passer is, with stats and passer rating, but ranking QBs is ranking intangibles, pretty hard to do and impossible to achieve concensus in a group of three or more.

Marino was a terrific passer, one of the best, but not an especially good field general or QB. Same with Bledsoe, Favre and Elway, though many will disagree with me, especially with Elway. But if Elway hadn't won the Superbowls, he'd be just another Marino, and Favre just another Bledsoe.

Manning took a huge leap in 2006, in my opinion. I don't know how he did it, but he vaulted up in my opinion, from a great Marino-like passer to a top QB.

I would definately put Montana, Manning and Brady in the top three, in no particular order. The gap to the next tier is so great, that these three belong in a group by themselves.

Unitas was another Marino/Elway IMO. When Bart Starr played, and other old-time greats, the game was very different, and it is difficult to compare.

Why would someone include Marino and not Brady? I'd have:

Elway
Montana
Marino
Brady
Manning

I'd only put Marino on because of his TDs, not because he was a big game loser and overall pr*ck.

Please list all the quarterbacks who have won four conference chamionships in a row. That is, please list all the quarterbacks who led their teams to the Super Bowl four years in a row.

If we want to list only QB's who have won a SB, that's fine, and in the spirit of Red Sox fans.

BTW, it is extremely difficult to rate great QB's that played for relatively poor teams. Warren Moon and Archie Manning were great QB's.

Primarily because his career is still a work in progress. At the rate is is progressing, he certainly WILL belong on this list. For one thing, he's won three more Super Bowls than Marino will ever have won, at least as a player. However, if Brady is injured tomorrow and is never the same, or otherwise is traded to a lousy team, or simply takes a fall from the level he's played at, then he would not make this list.

The other problem is that this is simply too subjective a thing to decide, and limiting this list to five is going to leave out some GREAT players in any case. How about a top 10? Or perhaps a top 5 in physical talent (your Marino's, Manning's, etc) versus a top 5 in leadership and/or teamwork (need a better term for this... this would be your Montana's, Brady's etc)

Stop whining already!

Q: What's a Miami fan's favorite wine (sic)?
A: Aaaah, when are we playing in New England?

I definitely think Manning is better than Marino. He has broke a few of Marino's records (and will continue to do so) and he also has a ring which should almost be a requirement to be on that top 5 list.
