According to PFT, Antoine Winfield may want out of Minny because he doesn't feel that his style is best suited for a Tampa 2 defense. So my question to you, would you take a chance on him for the Pats secondary? What number draft pick would you offer, or combination of players and draft picks would you offer?

I'd like him and he's tradable as his cap acceleration minus salary would be close enough to even that Minnesota wouldn't take much of a hit.

His upcoming salaries are :

"$4.9 million, 2008: $5.6 million, 2009: $6 million, 2010: Free Agent"

Which is quote affordable. He's 30 in June so he's not young but isn't finished.

Not sure what I'd trade. Not a lot, at most our #3 but even that's a lot for a not young player.

I think Winfield is suited for our defense. He seems to be more comfortable in a more agressive style of coverage. I just don't know if we would take him. He has seemed to have some attitude problems.

I think he can be a good pick up at the right price though.

Maybe he falls into the category of 'player who will re-structure their contract for a chance at a ring'.

At about $5.5M a year with no bonus to deal with if cut, he's priced about right, IMO, unless he wants a new deal.

If the Pats can swing a trade that includes Samuel going to the Vikings and Winfield and a pick coming here, I am all for it :p

I'll take Oliver with a third round pick in the supplemental.

Wah. He didn't have any trouble with it when he was negotiating his signing bonus.

If the Vikings want to pay big $$$ to Samuel, let's go :) Honestly, I would probably do it straight up if Winfield is happy with the three years left on his deal. We get the older guy but one who is signed for three reasonable (though a little high) years.

Didn't we smoke the viking secondary????We don't need another old cb.....

Winfield is one of BB's favorites, despite his small size the coach thinks he is one of the best run supporting CBs in the league. He would add a physical presence to the secondary.

I am nor sure how we could get him, other than trading Samuel so I don't see it happening. I would rather have Samuel long-term, he is only 25 and trending upward.

Assuming he is healthy, I'd be willing to go as high as our 2nd round pick for Winfield. He would really solidfy the secondary and provide insurance/leverage against a Samuel holdout.

Winfield would be icing on the cake, but I don't think we NEED him and therefore should not trade anything too high for him.

I say a fourth rounder.

Our top priority should be Samuel. Even if we don't sign him to a long term contract and plays for the franchise $ he's still a known quantity vs Winfield an unknown in our system.

So with Samuel and Hobbs, why would why would we trade a first day pick and pay close to $6 mil for a backup?

Winfield would be a starting corner and very good insurance. Hobbs would move to nickelback, which might as well be considered a starter. Also, don't forget that Samuel has not signed his franchise tender yet. We do NOT need a repeat of the Branch situation last year with no quality replacement in sight.

consider, though, we gave a 2nd rounder for Duane Starks.

Let's trade for every player that comes available.

We should sign every free agent too.
