but i want this one to start a petition
i know theres websites out there where you can start one
anyone have any free time to do it??
the lottery has f*cked us over twice in the last decade
this thing has to be stopped

personally i'm beginning to think it is rigged. how perfect was it for lebron to go to cleveland and resurrect a struggling franchise. The odds of Orlando getting the #1 years in a row(can't remember when and don't really care to look it up). but what better way to boost a new franchise.

i'm just bitter, but i wouldn't hold it past big business to shaft a winner. at least we have the pats.

just end the nba... boring as hell.... havent been to a game in 10 years, and dont plan to for another 10

I think Cleveland the year they got Lebron was the worst team in the league, 17 wins the previous season, but that draft was so stacked, even if they didn't get Lebron, they would have gotten Carmelo, Wade, Bosh or anybody else in the stacked 2003 draft.

Orlando in the years of their back to back the year when they got Shaq also had the worst record. It was the year later when they had a less than 1% chance of getting #1 they did, drafting Webber and shipping him to the Warriors for Penny Hardaway.

I hate the lottery so much, now more than ever. We should have gotten Durant, now who do we get, Brewer? Horford? Noah? Julian Wright? What a joke, meanwhile Oden and Durant are stuck in the NBA hotbeds of Seattle and Portland, where nobody will watch and us on the East Coast could care less.

you know what really grinds my gears about the draft is they say they don't want teams tanking for the #1 pick well most of the teams that are tanking already have terrible records and need the help the bottom 3 teams all usually suck equally

Tell me where to sign!

It is really suspicious that they won't do the actual drawing in front of anyone. What are they trying to hide?

OK, call me crazy, maybe I'm bitter, but hear me out:
Seattle and Portland both were considering moving due to declining fan bases. Atlanta could only keep their pick if it was in the top 3.
The 6 picks went, in order, Portland, Seattle, Atlanta, and then the worst three teams for 4 through 6 in order.

Conspiracy anyone? I hate how they don't show the ping pong balls for everyone to see. It's all in secret and works out perfectly for the NBA in terms of franchise-helping.

David Stern hates the Celtics. Remember when Reggie Lewis died, the NBA gave the Celtics zero relief, and also made the Celts keep Lewis' cap space on the team until his contract ran out?

Where would the Celtics have finished with a healthy Pierce ? Certainly not 2nd worst.

I've thought this over as well, and I guess the best legit answer would be that if they did it LIVE then they would have to announce the picks starting from 1 then to 2 then to 3 and so forth....the way they reveal the picks is the opposite order to create drama. Start from the lowest pick to the best pick.

Well if creating drama is their goal, they've sure succeeded.

The lottery makes no sense. There's no justice to it...

But it'll never end. Like so many things in society, once an incredibly stupid idea becomes implemented, accepted and ingrained, it will persevere in the face of all logic and reason.

its so true
sad
but true
there are always things in the world i look at, and jus say, this makes absolutely no logical sense whatsoever, but does it ever change...no
i feel very similar to how i felt after we lost to the colts...i jus dont know what to do with myself

true...but he WAS hurt
would the spurs have gotten the third worst record (dont forget the grizz finished with the worst not the c's that yr, but couldnt get it cuz they were only in their second yr in existence) if david robinson wasnt hurt that yr way back when

Didn't they used to televise it? I thought they did when Patrick Ewing came out (wasn't that the first lottery ever?) Maybe it is rigged, New York ended up with Ewing and there was no way that they should have.

I don't disagree - I'm just saying that it's not legit to say "it's not fair". Absolute fairness, if you want the worst teams to get the best picks, wouldn't be based solely on record due to injuries and tanking.

No matter how you frame it Ewing to NY, Lebron to Cleveland on and on, the two upper left coast ones this year there are too many coincidences that effect its credibility. I do not know if it is fixed, but give it a public showing to decrease the conspiracy theories.

The NBA is just a watered down product. The skills just seemed to have diminished. Besides 03 I can't think of a draft of must haves in recent years. We had Oden and Durant this season and that is basically it. Ginobli's and that kid from Utah? 6th man of year? are few and far between as far as projecting talent during a draft. Definately not the same product as the NFL.

There's just not enough talent coming into the NBA to save the bad teams and that is a big part of the league's demise. Think about who the really good players who have come out and compile a list of year they were drafted and you will see there is just not enough to save starving basketball franchises. Btw I can't stand the pompous David Stern. In the back of my mind I can't help but think that this conspiracy was on his hands. Ofcourse he doesn't have to anser to anyone so we will never know.

the lottery obviously isnt going to prevent teams from tanking so it serves no purpose IMO. they could at least increase the odds for the bottom dwellers. It's ridiculous, but I don't think it's rigged. If it were don't you think they'd want the Celtics(big market team) to get the #1 pick?

Yes, they would. Either Boston or Chicago or maybe LA or Atlanta.

I wouldn't be surprised if they tweak the odds a bit to further favor the bottomfeeders, but otherwise the lottery is here to stay.
