Re: LB Chad Brown Signed?

NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS IF IT'S TRUE. HE SUCKS. I STILL REMEMBER THE SHOCKING SIGHT OF TOMLINSON RUNNING THROUGH HIS ARM TACKLES AND BEISEL HELPING TOMLINSON FINISH HIS RUN BY ESCORTING HIM INTO THE ENDZONE!!!
How many Senior Citizens do we need at linebacker? Junior Seau is enough. I was not happy when we signed him in 2005 and I am disgusted that we signed him again.

Because everyone knows that signing someone in May makes him a lock to be on the team.

He might not even make the final roster, and if he does it will just be for depth, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: LB Chad Brown Signed?

You mean the fourth solid OLB, right?
1. Colvin, 2. AD, 3. Vrabel

The thing is, Vrabel is still likely to see ILB duty, so we might be less one OLB. I think Seau and Bruschi are going to need a rest. In fact, I'm sure Seau won't start this season barring injury.

The postive is that if Brown can contribute in his natural position, it goes toward having the 6 lber rotation a la 03-04. (Vrabel, McGinest, Colvin, Bruschi, Phifer, Johnson)
Admittedly the latter six were probably a little better.

Re: LB Chad Brown Signed?

I am not excited about this at all. He didn't work out well the first time and hasn't really been a factor anywhere for a number of years. I'm sure there has to be better quality depth than this.

First time around, he wasn't being used at OLB. He was being used at ILB, a position he hadn't played since his Pittsburgh days...And even then, it was a whole new experience for him.

The one thing I can say about Brown is that he is a hard worker. But, he's more just camp fodder than anything else at this point.

Re: Pires: Pats agree to terms (again) with LB Chad Brown

Do we have any clarification whether Seau is signed???

Vrabel's still going to see time at OLB, and he's a better OLB, than ILB. The point is they already have three solid OLB's on the roster, and they also have some young OLB's with potential.

Alright, now that the shock is over, you're right of course. He might not make the team. But I'm telling you Zip, what I saw from this guy in that San Diego game was shocking. The performance of Brown, Starks and Beisel was just  I saw some of the worst football fundamentals out of those three guys in that game. I was extremely happy when BB let them all go.

He's supposed to be taking his physical, and if he passes he'll be on the team. I don't know if he's taken it yet or not.

I hear ya, Brown was extremely dissapointing. I was as suprised as you were to hear about this because in 2005 even when Bruschi came back and Vrabel moved inside, Belichick could have put him back on the outside in his natural position but he didn't and Brown saw barely any playing time. So why Belichick would want to bring him certainly is puzzling, but Belichick has his reasons and though he is not right all the time he is right a lot of the time. And just because they are bringing Brown is doesn't mean they are married to him. He could be camp competition who will be given the chance to fight for a depth LB spot but who can also be cut at any time.

Huh? Belichick did put him back outside after Bruschi's return. But with McGinest and Colvin, he barely saw any time. However, he did come in as one of the 2 LBs in the nickel page, and made a few plays against the Jags when Bruschi was out (but Beisel started).

Re: Pires: Pats agree to terms (again) with LB Chad Brown

We're probably looking at 9-10 LB roster spots, depending on how things shake out with the DB special teamers (Mitchell, Baker, Spann, etc.)

OLB:
Thomas
Colvin
Woods
Brown/Rogers/Bissinger

ILB:
Vrabel
Bruschi
Seau
Alexander
Izzo
Mays/Lua

That would be 10, so elsewhere:

QB - 2 (Brady, Cassel)
RB - 3 (Maroney, Faulk, Morris)
FB - 2 (Evans, Mills)
WR - 6 (Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Caldwell, Washington, Jackson) (Brown?)
TE - 3 (Watson, Thomas, Brady)
OT - 3 (Light, Kaczur, O'Callaghan) (Britt maybe)
OG/C - 5 (Koppen, Mankins, Neal, Hochstein, Yates)

Offense: 24

DE - 4 (Seymour, Warren, Green, Hill/Brown)
NT - 3 (Wilfork, Wright, Smith)
OLB - 4 (Thomas, Colvin, Woods, Brown/Rogers)
ILB - 6 (Vrabel, Bruschi, Seau, Alexander, Izzo)
CB - 5 (Samuel?, Hobbs, James, Scott, Gay)
S - 5 (Harrison, Wilson, Meriweather, Hawkins, Sanders) (Mitchell maybe)

Defense: 26

K - Gostkowski
P - Miller
LS - Paxton

Special Teams: 3

I remember him really disappearing and I read a lot that he was getting minimal playing time. I even remember him being a healthy scratch at least once.

Re: Pires: Pats agree to terms (again) with LB Chad Brown

Pats1, I'll bet Guiterrez (I'm sure I've massacred that name) will be on the final roster...

It's not so much being upset at such a development
... as that i cannot make myself believe it is TRUE.

I mean, once we begin signing draftees
some of the chaps currently on the roster will have to get the heave-ho
even before camp.

Re: Pires: Pats agree to terms (again) with LB Chad Brown

I rather have Monty.... His wife WOW...

Re: Pires: Pats agree to terms (again) with LB Chad Brown

I like the signing....it gives a LOT of vet flexibility to the linebacking position..with 6 players...Bruschi and Seau inside...Colvin and Brown outside with Thomas and Vrabel possible at either. I don't see Thomas as strickly an OLB..I think they can place him wherever there is a strong mismatch whether that is inside, outside or even more on the line.
Brown in 05 was moved to ILB, a position he had not played in awhile and th4 Pat D system was all new to him..even after playing in teh league many years there is a LOT to learn. Last year if you recall, he had a wrist/hand injury..I believe similar to TedyB's..so he was cut MORE because of that any anything. I HOPE this time atound they use him MORE to his strengths..outside and rushing in. Many options now..I really like it.

Re: Pires: Pats agree to terms (again) with LB Chad Brown

Chad did look good as a reserve in the Jags playoff game, at least. Anyway, I like it when there are Patriots older than me on the team. Makes me feel like I still have a shot to make the NFL!

Re: Pires: Pats agree to terms (again) with LB Chad Brown

Why not put Andre Tippett on the final roster to improve his

Hall Of Fame chances?
