Givens might not be ready for start of season

Old friend David Givens isn't sure he will be ready to start the season, according to this story:

Givens revealed he had a second surgery on his left knee roughly six weeks ago, and said his recovery has been slower than he expected.

“My expectations are to be back at some time this season, I don’t know exactly when,’’ Givens said. “It is kind of a week-to-week thing right now. When I can start doing some pounding on it, I’ll have a better idea at that time.’’

Yikes!:

Givens said he was using a cane up until two weeks ago.

Givens deserved a bump, and was a hard working guy that came up from the ranks from the 7th round.. I hope everything works out for him, but my guess is the Titans cut him after this yr..

I know, I shouldn't open back up this can of worms, but I definitely do and will always fault Givens for leaving. I don't wish him badly.

It really seems like players who leave this team are cursed. Wiggins and Vinatieri are really the only players I can think of who left and were as good or better with their new teams, but even Vinatieri had injury problems.

Greg Spires should have been superbowl MVP. Curtis Martin, Dave Meggett, and Irving Friar did okay for themselves, and so did Nick Buonaconti and Jim Plunkett. Shawn Jefferson, maybe?

I mean during the Belichick era. There are plenty of players who left and went on to have great careers elsewhere if we are spesking all time.

I too hope Givens can get back to what he was.

He was one of my favorite Patriots when he was hear and is proof that it's not about where you get into the league but just that you get into the league.

Titans were good at the end of last season, but all the guys that got them there are gone. (Most of them anyway.) No Drew Bennett, no Travis Henry, no Pacman. Good luck Vince, you won't have all those guys to bail you out this year.

Looks like their receivers are going to be even worse than ours were last year.

I really don't get what the Titans are doing. They let go of Drew Bennett, Bobby Wade, Travis Henry, and Chris Brown. They signed no one to replace those receivers. They did take Paul Williams and Chris Davis in the later rounds, but you can't rely soley on them in their rookie years. They have the overweight LenWhale White at running back as well as an underacheiver with a YPC that was barely three yards in college who they took in the second round. In the first round they took safety Michael Griffin and are converting him to cornerback. It makes perfect sense to take a safety whose weakness is coverage and make him a cornerback. Maybe they know something I don't but none of these moves say "championship."

I didn't understand that pick, especailly when they just signed a good DB in Nick Harper.

I was shocked when they picked Griffin. They're defense isn't very good but if they really wanted a corner then Chris Houston and Josh Wilson were still on the board or they could have traded up a few spots and gotten Leon Hall. All would have been better cornerbacks than Michael Griffin. They have such a huge need at wide receiver and Bowe, Meachem etc. were all available. I just think there were so many other ways they could have gone.

A Chargers fan presented a thoery that the Titans picked Griffin because they knew the Chargers wanted him so they were hoping to use him as bait in a trade for Michael Turner. If that is true then it backfired because now they don't have Turner and they are stuck with Griffin.
