Brand new Patriots S Brandon Meriweather just stepped to the podium, with the ceremonial No. 1 jersey, and was introduced in person for the first time to the Boston-area press corps.

In the discussion, Meriweather went over a great deal of the process in becoming a Patriot, from beginning to end.

After the Senior Bowl and combine workouts, the team started zeroing in on the Hurricane DB, twice sending reps to the Coral Gables campus to work him out and get to know him. Meriweather said yesterday that he met with three different guys on the two visits, and one of them was Bill Belichick.

To the prospect, that affirmed a serious interest in using a first-round pick on him. But what really stuck out was happened during those meetings.

“They wanted to know me as a person,” said Meriweather. “To me, personally, I was just taking it as the team really wanted to get to know me. If you were an investor and you were gonna put a lot of money into a lot of stock, you would want to know everything about that stock before you put it in. I understand that the team wanted to get to know you, they have to get to know you for them to put that stock in you.”

good stuff. I think we're going to like this kid.

Apparently Meriweather was dressed in a very sharp suit. I can't wait to see the pictures.

"This is our favorite time of year, starting again," Robert Kraft said as photographers snapped away and cameras rolled. "This is the 14th time we have the pleasure and opportunity to kick off the beginning of football season, in our mind, by presenting Brandon a No. 1 jersey. And you all see, he's a very sharp dresser -- the pocket square, the whole deal. This guy knows how to dress."

I really like this kid. If everyone can stay healthy our defensive backfield will be nasty. Will we find out what number he'll be wearing tomorrow?

He sounds like he gets it and as long as his actions match his words - he will be an outstanding addition to this football team.

Look at some of the things he said

Meriweather said he plans to lean on the team’s veterans, specifically former University of Miami teammate Vince Wilfork, to show him the ropes. “I’m going to try to learn as much as I can from them,” he said, also mentioning the names Rodney Harrison, Tom Brady and Tedy Bruschi, calling them “future Hall of Famers.”
Meriweather talked about the pride he takes in being a complete defensive back. “I try not to label myself as a corner, as a safety or anything,” he said.
When asked if playing quarterback in high school helps him on the field, he said: “I would like to say yes, but I don’t think so, because I was an option quarterback. I think I threw maybe two passes in three years. I was pretty much a running quarterback. As for me being Tom Brady, no, that’s not possible.”
Asked how the Patriots were effective in finding out more about who he was, he said: “The fact Coach Belichick came down. I think Coach Belichick has a great feel for people. I think just by talking to him, I could tell he was a smart guy who could feel out people well. Thanks to him, I’m here.”
Meriweather was asked if he was nervous about the challenge ahead. “Nervous? That’s a big word. I don’t think you worry about that. You’re anxious.”

You can't do it much better than that.

Seems gunuine and not a BSer, I have a good feeling about him.

He's better dressed than the boss. I'm not sure if that is good or bad.

I'm not sure Bob could pull off that suit.

Meriweather on the other hand looks very cool in it.

And I'm sure the Krafts were pleased that, once again, they're not dwarfed by their draft pick. (cf Logan Mankins)
