Brown returned with a vengeance, setting a Hurricanes record for sacks by a defensive tackle (11).

“Over the second half of the season, you’d be hard pressed to find a better defensive tackle in the country,” Hurtt said. “If he had played that way all year, he would have been a top-15 pick.”

Sounds like Brown has alot of potential.....sounds like a hungry guy coming off the bench.

I like Brown a lot. Green is a good player in his role. Wright is a good backup. But I would like a more complete backup DE for rotations, injuries and four man lines. I was looking more at Carriker and Harrell (the latter of which went way earlier than I expected) but Brown is an interesting fallback plan.

When everyone's healthy I wouldn't mind seeing some (note, some, I'm not proposing a chnage of our base defense because of a 4th round pick) 4-3 with Brown, Seymour, Warren, Wilfork upfronnt Vrabel, Colvin, Thomas at LB.

He'll be a Jarvis Green-type backup at DT. Come in a few times and weak havoc as a sack master.

No doubt a great value at that spot. Makes you wonder why no one that needs a 4-3 tackle picked him up.

Doesn't seem to have a position in a 3-4.

NFL.com says "He plays too tall in his stance to be a nose guard, but shows enough lateral movement to make plays down the line".

And he's too slow to play end.

We already play "some" 4-3. Pretty much every game. No?

Look at his measurables. Brown is 6'4'' 290lbs. That really not the weight youd be looking for but if he puts on some more weight and plays well he can be a dominant piece.

we are due to hit something in round 4 tru 7 other since samuel its been slim pickings

Yeah, I'm just saying that I think he'll be a better 4th DL than Wright or Green. Maybe not this year, we'll see. And I'm not ripping on Green, he's more of a role playing pass rusher.

BTW, I hope Brown can play LDE, that was the double whammy in the loss to The Jest, with Warren our Seymour had to switch to the left side because Green is pretty much a right side only player.

I see Brown as a DE. 3-4 DEs are kind of like DTs anyway.

Brown Could become a dominating player. He could do what Green did for us in the playoffs against the Colts, but in a more consistent basis.

Don't really know yet obviously but I like his competitive spirit already. Maybe he'll even keep Big Vince spurred on to keep getting better and better. If that's all he did in his first year, then I would consider that a good start.

IMHO.. He's going to be the Troy Brown of the DL... just plug and watch em play, exceptionally well.

Almost exactly what Forbes said about Seymour...

I wonder if this guy is the heir apparant to a potential free agent loss in Ty Warren. I hope not.

I thought the knock on Brown was lack of consistency. That's what his position coach (Clint Hurtt) said about him in article in post#1:

"the only knock on him is inconsistency"

He could probably play 3-4 defensive end, but I think he'll be used more when they go to the 4-3, since in the 3-4 DEs aren't really pass rushers, while 4-3 DTs are.

I'm not sure they meant 3-4 end though. How many ends in a 3-4 are faster than Seymour?

They are projecting Brown as a Nose, if anything, in the 3-4.

Can he really play DE? He has one of the top 10 slowest 40 times in the draft. He seems like competition for Mike Wright. BB will never give up a value pick for a DL it seems.

Brown's abysmal 40/20/10 times at his pro day sure did cost him a lot in the draft. FWIW, most observers were shocked at the times because he looked a lot quicker and more powerful on the field.

Mike Wright ran a blazing (for a DT) 4.81 on his draft day.

In the games I sw him play he moved very quickly for such a big man. Hopefully Wilfork can keep him motivated and he shows and aptitude to work hard and improve.

If he shows promise then he will take Hill's spot this year and Mike Wright's next year (Wright is an UFA after this season).
