Pete Prisco, Peyton Manning's ballwasher is at it already. he has the Colts on top of his power rankings. he feels their losses (especially the defensive) are NO BIG DEAL. Wow, remember last year...our losses were the end of the world.

he also brings up the AFC Championship and the second half defensive collapse. Um, Pete...we had a ton of injuries and the flu. Think that had anything to do with it??? What a jackass.

Now, now those are real facts. But they are called excuses by Colts fans and some here who want to appear "objective".

I have no trouble witht the Colts being ranked #1 in his poll. They should be until they are beaten. I do think his analysis is stupid at best.

I don't think that the losses will be as huge for the Colts as they could have been - looking at their 07 draft they obviously intend to stick with their philosophy of loading up on offense and then letting guys like Freeney and Mathis do their pass rush thing.

Sanders was a huge player for them last year, I think he was the major difference maker in their improved postseason play on D - though it remains a risky proposition to have only one player of this type.

I think the Jags are over hyped, and the Titans and Texans may well improve, but they'll have to show me something concrete before I consider anyone outside Indy for the AFC South.

Unless tems find a way to get more pressure on Manning (im pretty sure he is the least pressurised QB in the NFL by some distance) then you can practically bank on the Colts making the postseason.

I have no real problem with the Colts at No.1 - they earned it by winning the big show last year.

Its up to the Patriots to go out there and rip that title back off them this year.

Excellant. Disrespect is what it is.

Quick, someone better let Rodney know.....:)

Prisco has a short memory if he forgot the Patriots D limited the Super-Chargers to 21 points and only 7 2nd-half points the week before. And the Pats D limited the Colts to 6 first-half points. Put in 3rd-string safeties and special-teams players covering key receivers and you'll see 32 points in one half.

I think he did a great job actually ranking the teams.

Colts deserve to be number 1. They won the Super Bowl! Besides what players did they lose that are threatening their wins/loss column? Dont give me Cato June or Jason David because neither were important players to that defense.

Agreed, #1 until knocked off the perch. That is how it works.

Wasn't so much that he ranked the Colts #1...they are the Champs. It was his logic. The players they lost are big. They lost both starting corners and a starting linebacker. Given they were not 5 time All Pros, but they ARE big losses. Seriously, does anyone think Daymeion Hughes is going to be able to cover Moss and/or Stallworth? In addition, Prisco fails to mention why the Pats defense blew up in the second half. It had to do with lack of depth and the flu...

In all fairness, I agree with him that the Colts losses are slightly overblown. I personally think they did a decent job given the cards they had.

That said, they certainly CANNOT be considered an upgraded team from last year. By the same token, I think he underrates the upgrades NE made this year. NE is certainly an upgraded team from last year and I for one CANNOT wait till they match up against the Colts.

I'll give them the number 1 (they earned it), but so far, IMO the Patriots have the opportunitiy to be a FAR superior team on the field next year.

Agree on all counts.

Q. Rodney now that you are the favorites how are you going to play the no respect card?

A. We never said we were the favorites. That's all of you saying that and when you say it you also add on paper.

On paper! You are all waiting for us to fall apart.

The rest of the NFL calling us paper champions. If that isn't disrespect I don't know what is.

Who did they lose? Harper? (joke) Cato June? (bigger joke) Jason David might have been the best player they lost because he was starting to bloom but he was very replaceable.

Hughes might have been one of the best corners in the draft if it werent for his speed.

That flu thing is a crock of s***, no excuses we lost because we were tired and couldnt keep our offense on the field to rest our defense. I dont care about the flu or injuires. We lost because the Colts beat us plain and simple.

Yeah, true enough, but Prisco is still right in what he said:

I love all the moves on offense, but have they really helped the defense all that much? That was the trouble spot in the loss to the Colts.

Adalius Thomas? Tory James? Brandon Merriweather?

EDIT: A healthy Rodney Harrison, Rosie Colvin, Eugene Wilson, Richard Seymour?

So should we just ignore the rest of the year when the defense was great? The defense had a bad game under two important conditions:

1) facing the best offense in the NFL

2) flu-ravaged

I guess I'm just crazy to look at the #2 defense (by points allowed), look at the addition of a top defensive free agent to said defense, and not be overly concerned about the D.

Except for a younger and faster ILB, what else did this team really need?

*edit* and Workhorse brings up a good point, I always thought Prisco was a pats ballwasher

I don't have a problem with this. When we were SB champs, I always felt that we should be ranked number one going into the season.

And, BTW, did anyone else notice that we play six of his top ten teams during the regular season.

Does anyone remember that we lost Seymour, lost one of our safeties, lost Bruschi lost Colvin??? We had a freaking third string linebacker trying to cover Clark in the second half. When we had everyone on the field we dominated defensively in the first half.

And, as far as their losses. Yes, I don't care if they are peripheral players. They were ALL starters. So, to have two new corners and a new linebacker is big. Daymeion Hughes? Please. I could outrun him. let's see him cover Moss and Stallworth...

No they don't, with that thinking he could just reverse the draft order :D

The Colts were the 3rd best team in the AFC last year. They won, good for them, but that has no bearing on their strength going into this year.

His comment about the Patriots defense being responsible for the loss, likewise, is silly because half our starters weren't on the field. With league average injuries, our defense is NOT a problem.

We lost one of our Safeties AFTER we lost the top two. Hawkins is a backup behind Harrison and Wilson - we lost the backup and had to play the backup's backup. Too bad for us - we have more depth there now with Meriweather - but we were playing street free agent types.
