We hear that while the deal that brought WR Randy Moss to the Patriots in the early-morning hours of the second day of the draft in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick was finalized during a conversation between Bill Belichick and Al Davis, it had been in the works for more than a year. Moss first became interested in New England after the team traded away No. 1 WR Deion Branch last September, and word filtered its way to the Patriots. We hear that Belichick has always loved Moss’ talent and that, after talking to friends around the league who know Moss, he came to the conclusion that he could get Moss to play hard for him. In addition, we hear that the rumor that Moss was willing to renegotiate his contract only with the Patriots is untrue. Word is Moss was so desperate to get out of Oakland that he would have renegotiated with other teams, including the Packers. The reason why Moss ended up in New England and not Green Bay is simple — the Packers wouldn’t budge from their offer of a fifth-round pick.

Pretty much old news.

Moss deal has been rumored for the longest time in the news countless times and we had made countkess threads.

I think the idea he would have restrustured for the Packers is BS. Also, while I like profootballtalk, sometimes they report stuff they "hear" that is completely false.

??? You mean there were Moss-to-the-Pats threads? How did I miss those...

Pretty ridiculous, isn't it? He would have renegotiated and given bloated Brett somebody to throw to, but they just wouldn't go for a fourth round pick.

BUT, did anybody credit said rumors?
I mean, a two-horse-parlay of BB accepting that a Prodigal Son has reformed ...
and that son being sensible enough to reduce his salary demands to what BB might pay !

Sorry. I still think his being willing to restructure for the Packers is BS. Also, Moss was talking about really wanting to win a SB by '07 back in sept. '06, and to me it seems obvious he felt even then NE would give him the best chance.
