1. Antonio Gates had 924 yards in 16 games (13.0 ypc)

2. Tony Ganzelez had 900 yards in 15 games (12.3 ypc)

3. Kellen Winslow 875 yards in 16 games (9.8 ypc)

If Watson had played in all 16 games and produced on the same level he could have had a 792 yard season. That would have put him fourth in the league in '06, and as it was he was 8th in the league while only playing 13 games. Watson is young, and just starting to come into his prime, so he SHOULD be a top five TE in '07, especially with the offense he'll now have around him. I mean Watson was getting doubled during parts of the '06 season, especially when NE's WR's were struggling. How are defenses going to double Watson with Stallworth, Moss, and Welker on the field? Among the top 8 Watson was second in yards per catch.

With Moss, Stallworth and Welker on the field, my guess is that Kyle Brady would be on the field with Maroney or Faulk. Watson will not be asked to be a wide receiver this year. I expect his production to go down. Also, Thomas is a fine receiver.

His production will not go down unless he is injured, and Thomas while being a fine receiver and a TE I really like, is not taking Ben Watson's job, just as yet, especially coming off a broken foot.

Watson is one of my favorite Patriots, and I think he got beaten up last season, but he still had a very solid year. He was the biggest receiving threat for most of the year and teams made sure they were all over him, whacking him every chance they could get. That is part of what led to his injuries and fumbles. The middle of the field will be much more open with the new receivers.

I was watching MST and they said that Watson is not the kind of tight end who gets open right near the line of scrimmage but instead makes his move to get open deeper down the field. Dave Thomas, on the other hand is the kind of TE who gets open right away but is not much of a vertical threat as Watson, so they seem to be very good compliments to each other. And people need to remember that this was only Watson's second year of actual playing time, and he improved immensely.

do some of you not realize the WR's being better should allow Watson more area to roam? Randy Moss is not going off for 1,400 yards this season, sorry. Brady is going to continue to spread the ball around to whomever is open, and I suspect that with better WR's on the field Watson will see more single coverage, and will be open more this season.

Was it Simms that accurately pointed out that if you drew a ball from where Bailey lost the ball and where the ball landed out of bounds, you could see that it did cross through the endzone? Dynasty changing bad call.

It's funny. The guy was getting double teamed last year, and he was working with crappy WR's for most of the season (sorry but it's true). This season he'll have better WR's around him who will likely be the ones getting doubled, yet his production is going to fall.... Scratch that his production is going to substantially drop off? Are you people serious? Also, NE had Dan Graham blocking last year, yet Watson still get a lot of playing time.

MIT held a course that analyzed that play and apparently they concluded that it is physically impossible that the ball didn't go out the end zone.

Everybody wants to keep Troy Brown on the team because of his character, his past performance, team leadership, and the type of play he made against SD in the playoffs. Honestly, Troy isn't the WR he used to be.

Now Ben Watson is coming into his prime, has good character, and he made key plays in the '05 playoffs. Yet, people bag on the guy.....makes a lot of sense to me
