Anyone know much about him for next year? Played Saftey with Meriweather looks pretty big at 6'2 200, is he a guy who could possibly replace Rodney?

Didn't some coach say he has the mind of Ed Reed in the body of Sean Taylor? If that's true then he won't make it out of the top six.

you never know 49ers are one frank gore injury away from being at that point

Phillips might be a better prospect than Taylor really.

Phillips has big size..has frame to add up to 220. He hits hard..maybe not as big as Taylor but his coverage skill is amazing.

Hes a mix of Taylor-Reed which is NASTY

Id like to see him get a little bigger but hes very good in coverage..very good against run..hits hard. Hes everything you want in a safety. Hes athletic..might not run a 4.3 but hes gonna be a 4.4 guy with field speed.

hes gonna be a top 5 player..possibly top 3 depending on which team is there.

Phillips and Campbell(DE) will lead the way next year :)

6'2" 202lbs SS

physical, big hitter, play maker, Good in pressure situations, strong against the run, CB coverage skills, fast, intelligent, loves football, and has good leadership ability. If he plays the way I think he should during the '07 season NE would be lucky to get a shot at him.

^you basically described Sean Taylor :)

the difference between them is Sean was/is bigger in weight..a little faster..more reckless style of play..also a bigger playmaker but Phillips has all the potential in the world. I certainly hope we get him next year and hes a good guy aswell

Meriweather and Phillips would probably only be second to landry and tayor for saftey tandems imo

Sean Taylor is the ideal physical specimen for a saftey but he got absolutely roasted in coverage this year. I read somewhere that he gave up more TDs than any other player. I don't know if mentally there is a part of his game that is missing or he doesn't have good enough instincts. I don't watch him a lot so I'm not going to pretend I know.

i've kept up with Sean since hes 1 of my favorite players

reason he gave up so many plays is because they put him close to the box a lot of the time . they had no defense whats so ever..no pass rush..couldnt stop run. no CBs besides Rogers. he was forced to play closer to line of scrimmage so he didnt make as many plays and he freelances so he got caught out of position a few times.

Taylor has very good instincts and he knows the game well mentally..hes just way too aggresive and he gets frustrated when the team doesnt make plays so he goes trying to make plays but the rest of defense is asleep which is why they gave up so many TDs. Not all Taylor's fault but he needs to settle down and not be overly aggresive. watch out this year..hes playing FS where he can freelance a bit and make plays

Howard Bryant, of the Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams would like to take advantage of FS Sean Taylor's coverage abilities in 2007, allowing SS LaRon Landry to play closer to the line of scrimmage.

The skins are gonna be doing al ot of Cover 1 instead of 2

The difference between the two is attitude, and discipline. Honestly, I'd take Meriweather and Phillips as me starting Safeties and be laughing out loud for pulling one over on the league.

We're getting a bit ahead of ourselves here. Phillips is a sure-fire top ten pick, and right now there is absolutely no indication that we will A. Have a top ten pick (I expect a 15-20 range pick from SF), or B. that BB will be willing to give a rookie top ten money...they cost way too much, the NFL needs a rookie scale.

i think Taylor's attitude on the field sometimes is the difference maker. Hes more reckless and hes 1 of the toughest guys in league imo. His mentality is what makes him intimidating..more so than his size i'd say.

Taylor is more aggresive..flys around more and just plays to reck havoc

Phillips is not as hard as hitter but his dicipline keeps him in position to make plays..hes a smarter player in coverage not because ability but because Taylor just wants to make the plays more often and winds up out of position

That's tue. But an added benefit of getting someone else's 1st round pick is that it makes the NFL season even more interesting than it already is. We get to root against the 49ers and dream about the stud player we may be able to add.

Then we'll trade our own pick at #32 for a future #1+ and get to do it all over again.

It's good to be the Pats! :rocker:

Phillips probably would've been drafted before Laron Landry. That's how good he is. I'd love to see Phillips with the Patriots. Just have to root for the '49ers to have a really bad season!

If Meriweather (FS) and James Sanders (SS) play well in 2007, it won't matter.

he would need to add a few pounds before he has the body of sean.

6-2 220 is ideal size for a strongsafety.

hes not 220 though. hes more of 205-210

He better hit the weight room then. But he has the height and frame to take on the extra weight. Question is, can he remain as mobile and effective with it? The talent is there though. We'll see by next year's combine if he's preparing seriously for the pros.

Besides don't you want him on this team just so you can yell "Kenny!" every time he lays a big hit?
