I'm almost 100% sure that at least 1 owner did this, just to lower the cap numbers for his team...

Instead of paying the player their money, why not just "donate" the difference to the players "non-profit" organization... and pay them a little bit so it looks decent enough on the books.

That or just pay them under the table.

I'd be willing to bet that this type of thing already happened.

Or am I just too brilliant????

Sometimes I think that this paying under the table stuff might be true and a way to circumvent the salary cap. For example, sign Brady long term and Bob Kraft starts a stock portfolio that is not in his name and when he retires gives it to him.. or how about Troy Brown signs for the vet minimum, however Bob Kraft has arranged a deal when he retires he becomes spokesman for Banknorth for 5 years.

These guys know how to make money, and there are creative ways to circumvent the cap.. who would know???

Exactly... I bet this thing happens more than we realize; Enron style.

I guess it would surprise me only because the world, especially the NFL world, is so small that unless everyone was complicit, someone would find out and blow the whistle. And that would create a major poopstorm.

But WTF do I know.

Leave it to NE fan to conjure up a way to cheat and beat the system, and you wonder why people dislike you so much.

How about free lifetime supply of razors?

Right, and the Colts are so wholesome! They probably all go to church together and volunteer at the soup kitchen once a week, and of course none of those millionaire athletes would ever cheat on their taxes because their the goody goody boys! BS!

Hey, I never said that, but all the BS that comes out of that area of the country? It seems that nothing else matters but winning, regardless of how it is done. I was always taught to play fair. I don't subscribe to the theory of "if you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'".

Neither do I, but with all the scandals and crooks you read about in corporate America, and all the talk of how the NFL is big business, I could really care less about what happens behind the scenes, as long as their not bilking Joe Bluecollar on Sunday and it's all done to keep players on the roster. If Goodell ever cleans up the player ranks and wants to focus on this stuff then it'll be time for owners to face the music. IMO the big issue for the NFL that might be a big dark cloud is the one hovering over MLB. If Congress starts looking around in their dirty laundry, then everyone is in trouble. Shawn "Look At Me, I'm An Idiot" Merriman is just the tip of the iceberg.

Take it from me -- nor does Mr Kraft.

(I bet that from your high moral ground you must feel proud to have Bill Polian as your GM, don't you -- or is using the stadium loudspeakers to increase crowd noise not cheating?)

I believe the Denver Broncos were found to have violated the salary cap during their Supr Bowl years. If I recall it involved Elway and Davis "deferring" money to free up cap space but the Broncos made under the table interest payments to them on the deferred $, essentially making it not deferred.

The team got a fine of some sort and gave up a mid round pick which was not nearly enough for Al davis whose accusations that the Broncos cheated to win their Super Bowls had sparked the investigation.

I think it is unfair to say Polian believes in breaking the rules. I've seen no evidence of that.

Now, if you want to talk about abusing his position in the league to get the rules modified to benefit his team, only a Colts homer would even dream of denying that.

Polian doesn't break the rules, he pisses and moans until the league changes them.

Hey, I hear ya! Every day it seems like some other person or entity of "high esteem" is caught up in some corrupt B.S. Of course, that doesn't make it right for the NFL. And on a scale, I would worry about the NFL a whole lot less than politicians, lawmakers, and corporate big wigs. If everyone in THEIR field of employment "did the right thing", than no one would have to worry.

I'm not saying Colts are above reproach, and I am not saying the Pats are egregious violaters, however, I have heard the "ain't cheatin', ain't tryin'" phrase come out of NE fan way too much. In the end, I want to win clean, fair, and square. Certainly, stockpiling a team of talent is justa tad more egregious than a little piped in noise for a Monday Nighter, right? (Not an admission of guilt on EITHER side). As for Polian, I guess if the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I still don't understand all the hub bub. If the physical play in the Playoffs were reviewed and showed nothing, then I suppose they would not have implemented a "point of emphasis". AND, if you were on the up and up, NE fan would STFU, take the trophy, and not say another word. Whining about whining makes it look as though you were guilty to begin with ;)

Ha ha. Yes we feed on jealousy from losers like you. Please continue.

And don't be clever, you know your not allowed to keep razors in your facility.

Bwaahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

How'd you think of THAT ONE, Fay Ray??

My personal opinion is if Pioli did any of this, the Krafts would fire him with absolutely no discussion other than verifying the facts. Bob and Jonathan are the leaders in the NFL community is avoiding that kind of nonsense. We will do what is allowed under the CBA, under the understanding among owners, and under the law. I understand that most here think that this is a stupid position. And just BTW, ENRON went backrupt. Their employees lost billions. Careers were runied, and many went to jail. My company deal with the Krafts. I have absolutely no doubt that my opinion is Krafts. Of course, others can tell us how we should violate the law, the CBA and the understandings between owners.

OK now, maybe you should layoff of the LSD... all I was stating was that it's prolly more common than we know about.

P.S. There are some people who love me. All of the others that don't; know where to go. I'm fine with that.

No, I'm talking about the owners themselves...

Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder wouldn't do this????

Just research the career that Jerry Jones had before becoming a NFL owner.

He cooked the books as they say.

He royally screwed over MANY people in the state of Oklahoma.

You're a total inept idiot.

This thread was NEVER based on the dolts. NEVER. Actually, I don't ever really think about that POS team.

But now that your putting the spotlight on the stink...
