Interesting poll on ESPN.COM, wilth people voting on who they think the biggest first round bust might be. Of course, it is only everyone's opinion, but with 100,000 votes, it's funny to get an idea what football fans think.

(You can vote for more than one bust)

Interesting results so far:

Least likely to be a bust is patrick Willis, with only 4.2% voting him a bust.

Brandon Meriweather is at #15 with 15% naming him a bust.

QBs didn't do well, Russell is at the #2 spot and Quinn at #3, with 38.3% and 27.9 percent, respectively.

Who is #1?

58% of voters, about 58,000 fans, voted Ted Ginn Jr most likely to be the biggest bust of the 2007 draft class.

Go Fins.

I think Jamarcus Russell has bust written all over him, as does Ted Ginn. I think Gaines Adams and LaRon Landry will be the two best players taken in this draft when we look back in a few years.

Ginn and russell.....for sure.

You know, that's an absolutely terrific poll. I love how open-ended it was. It would be interesting to keep the results around and 3-4 years down the line compare this popular consensus to the results.

Ginn has great speed and quickness but you can't survive on that alone in the NFL like you can in college. Ginn didn't show that he was a particularly good route runner and his numbers aren't that great considering he was playing with the Heisman winning quarterback. Ginn could turn into a very good player, but as Patriots fans know, if speed was everything for a WR then Bethel Johnson would be a star.

We need to define what a bust is. Is it any player who doesn't reach his potential for any reason, even injury? personally, if a player came in with an existing injury risk, then a bust due to injury is still a bust.

Given that, I think it's possible for Adrian Peterson to be a bust with a potentially chronic collarbone issue.

I feel pretty good about Meriweather's chances to not be a bust just because it seems he really loves to play.

Some disagree, but I feel a person is a bust no matter the reason that prevented them from reaching expectations. That includes, injury, off the field problems, and a lack of actual ability.

Ginn will literally bust when the first player tackles him. He's that fragile.

its avoting but its not a good #..

i think Nelson has a much bigger bust chance than any other DB really..he played 1 year and he free lances a lot and has questions about intelligence.

Well, it won't help for the poll. Everyone who answered had his/her own defintion. I suspect many people included injury as a cause for being a bust for Ginn.

If he has a lis franc injury as has been reported and is wearing a boot, he may not play at all next year.

Off topic, but in answer to someone above, I sure wish Bethel had worked out. He sure had some moves and speed on returns. He and Ryan Claridge were two players for whom I had high hopes. At least Bethel got on the field :D

I see where you're coming from but Ginn has amazing illusiveness, its very shifty, and has very good hands. I don't know if he'll be a star, a bust or an average player, but the potential to be a star is definitely there.

That video made me fall in love with him. :)

lol do u know Ted Ginn?

i've seen him a lot

hes not very ellusive..he uses his speed to get by people..he wont break ankles. not very shifty..has some quicks but hes more of a speed guy than a quick guy. his hands are the reason he wasnt projected as 1 of the best WRs..he drops a few balls..has a lot of work to do to become consistent

im a big Ginn fan but you are overrating him

Exactly, he's a top end speed guy, but he doesn't have good cutback ability, he's not a great route runner, and his hands can be good at times, but he also drops passes he shouldn't.

Jamarcus Russell has all the makings of a bust. He is coming into a team with a horrible offensive line, a rookie head coach and playing for fans that are some of the most demanding (and we would to when you us the first pick on a QB and have been pathetic over the last few years).

He was drafted based on upside, which is always a bad thing. He had good numbers at LSU, but the guy was as successful as Brady Quinn in big games. The Irish might had lost against better teams, but he didn't buckle and lose the game for his team.

I also don't think he has had enough experience and I don't have faith in the ability of LSU to produce a franchise QB.

To his credit, his accuracy is hidden by the hype of his arm strength. The mere threat of passing deep on a team with deep threats will allow him to use that accuracy in shorter patterns. Unlike busts like Tim Couch and Ryan Leaf, Russell has talented, veteran receivers. Daunte Culpepper reached his early success because he had guys like Moss and Carter all over him. Not to mention Russell has some good running backs to dump off to. I don't have much faith in Raiders power running game, but a young QB needs confidence as much as he needs protection up front. Completing short passes will give him some confidence, the line protection is what is in question.

Hopefully the Raiders sit him for a year or at least majority of it. They definately need to evaluate the protection before throwing their future star into the fire. Look at Carr, you can't tear down the confidence for day one.

Honorable mentions:

Justin Harrell
Ted Ginn Jr
Craig Davis (although I think AJ Smith can do no wrong)
Darrell Revis
Greg Olsen

Bump! . .. ... ....

"illusiveness"..is this supposed to be a play on the word elusiveness?..or is there an alternate educational system down there in Aqua4Everland....

Hey, thanks shakadave! you remembered. ;)

You have to give the fans credit: just 3 years later, not one of the top 3 bust predictions is still with the team that drafted him.
