You'll Laugh When You Read These Draft Grades; I Did...

Well I wouldn't say A+ for the Dolphins, but I did give them a B on their draft. We do have 3 guys who will come in and contribute within the first 2 years. I love our first 3 picks with Ginn, Beck and Satele. But it is dumb to really grade a draft class until they're 3 years in, so I don't see anything ridiculous at this point.

Most of what has been written about Ginn as a first round pick is a stretch, particularly as Brady Quinn was on the board. All draft grades are ridiculous, an A+ for the Dolphins is a bit over the edge.

Another classic example of a media outlet making some outlandish claim so we will all talk about them.

This writer just wants to be outrageous. This was a lousy draft year

and probably nobody deserved an A. Bill Belichick predicted that players

the quality of normal UDFAs would be coming off the board in round three.

This is why the Pats bailed out so quickly. For all practical purposes the

Pats' draft was Meriweather, Welker, and Moss. Not too bad for any year.

With regard to the rest of the draft don't get upset too early. Just because

the Pats choices don't fall in line with Great Northern Blue, NFL Draft

Countdown, etc. doesn't mean that the Pats laid an egg. It justs means

the Pats have a large competent scouting organization and these draft

websites don't have those kinds of resources. The Pats will still have

a half dozen rookies on the team.

A+ for the Dolphins is LOL.
What's wrong with A+? Everybody knows that the best way to build a team is to build it around a punt returner. What dynasty ever had a franchise QB?

No, punt returner is the way to go if you want a player to build a franchise around.

Plus Ginn is also a wide receiver. Look how many Lombardis Keyshawn and Friar brought to the Jets and New England. Plus, Detroit became a dynasty with multiple superbowl wins by drafting the best WR in the draft. Didn't it?

The only thing keeping the Dophins from getting an A++ is that they didn't draft a long snapper in round 2.

Hard to argue about the Pats grade.......since he couldn't even bother to name what picks were reaches.

Right, except you're understating what they got for their first, second, and third rounds picks in this draft, plus Deion Branch:

Brandon Meriweather
Wes Welker
Randy Moss
SF's first rounder next year - probably a higher pick than #28 in a deeper draft
An extra 3rd round pick next year.

Not bad at all.

I'd have to say I'm with Aqua on this.

My gut feeling is that Ginn was a reach that high in the first round - and I'm not sure why they'd reach with Quinn on the board.

I think its a classic example of a pro coach taking a guy he recruited in college - they become overly enamored with them and see them through rose colored glasses

But he'll probably be a decent WR - so it all depends on how well Beck and Quinn do in the NFL - and we won't know that for some time.

So the possibility of an A+ is there - one can't rule it out but you can't say that now.

I was talking about the Pats grade... and why it was almost on the bottom.

i think the Dolfins drafted very well. Reguardless of where they took their guys, they addressed some needs and got some very good players. I think our draft sucked as far as picks go. the only one who might see the field is
Brandon Meriweather...they others are stiffs IMO. Now if you want to grade the off-season, the Pats get an A. Thomas, Moss, Welker, Stallworth etc

Our draft did not suck at all. We got a extra 2008 first round pick and fourth rounder we used to get Randy Moss. We Took Brandom Meriweather at 24, who is going to be a great player. Meriweather is a top 15 talent who got a bad rap. It will be funny to see him be a great player and have no issues. Always love to see the idiots eat crow. We nabbed a extra 2008 third round round pick and picked up a nice dt in Kareem Brown in the fourth. The rest of the guys where late round picks but so what? Go look at how many first and second round big names are making an impact in the nfl from previous drafts. Then tell me how many are not. This was a weak draft.. We got some great players and loaded up for the draft next year. I cannot wait until next year when all the draft pundits are praising NE for having so many high picks to work with.

i was going off players they drafted not picks they got next year. You are right, i love the SF #1 pick next year. Meriweather is awesome, but you cant tell me that Kareem Brown is going to see the field or any of the other draft picks...no way you can convince me. If i am wrong, i will gladly say so. I have eaten crow before...its not so bad (taste like chicken)

Belichick's draft was for two teams

Belichick drafted for the first Team in Meriwether, Welker and Moss.

He then used the balance of the picks and drafted for the Practice Squad.

He drafted to re-stock the Dante School on the Practice Squad with the rest of the picks including the UDFAs.
He gave Dante an agile but raw TE/OT conversion tackle, (like
Ashworth & Gorin) a Guard/Tackle conversion candidate who isn't quick enough for tackle, (like Hochstein)and a Center to train, all with three full years of PS eligibility in which to do it. :D

He got Gutierrez as the PS QB, as a sort of Brady/Cassel combo clone, who lost his job at Michigan to a guy named Drew; and sat all but his Senior year like Cassel; but transfered to Idaho to get onto the field for some playing experience. He is described as an injured QB with the Brady style; good, not great arm, good size (6-4 230), heady, side-stepping, pocket passer, non-runner, intelligent, guy who goes through his receiver progressions.:D

There is also the obligatory DE/OLB conversion guy for the PS, as Pierre jumped to the 53 in his rookie year.

There is an obligatory DL for experiment. Don't forget Santonio loses his PS eligibility this year as well; its up or out. So the PS DL lineman slot needs to be re-filled, in any case. Late bloomer Kareem seems like a good candidate for a DE/NT reserve.:D

There is even a PS candidate for ILB or perhaps to push 53 tail-ender Corey Mays for a job.

Exactly. Each one of these teams could go anywhere from an A+ to an F on this draft. It just depends on who produces.

Even more ridiculous than the A+ for the Dolphins is the A for the Eagles. Abiamiri was a good pick, but trading out of the first round and drafting a QB when you have a top QB who is under 30 already? That's hardly an A...
B+ for the Colts is a bit of a stretch to me too. Especially this statement:"OT Tony Ugoh and CB Daymeion Hughes should become starters within a season." I don't know anything about Hughes, but everything I've read about Ugoh is that he will take at LEAST two years to be a starter. Plus, didn't they give up a lot for him?

He seems to be basing his grades on the number of players that will start this upcoming season, which is foolish. A bad team could draft five starters since they probably have a lot of holes on their roster, whereas Super Bowl contenders might get one starter, two if they have a great draft.

Definitive grades on drafts take a few years, so it's an academic exercise. But I don't think anyone can give the Patriots actual draft a high grade unless they consider Welker and Moss as part of the class. It was and is clear to me that there were few slots available on this team for the draft class. The Pats needed another safety and they appear to have met that need. They may, or may not, need someone at CB. But the biggest problem with the defensive backfield the last couple of years has been injury, not the personell going into the season. I really think they still need depth at inside linebacker. So if I'm dissapointed in the draft it's there. But, I'm speculating they just didn't see anyone they thought could step in and feill that slot. So, out of the draft they got a safety, a proven possession receiver in Welker, a potential game breaker in Moss, and a first rounder for next year. If you're rating talent brought in through the draft, it's a pretty weak class. If you're rating the total package in terms of meeting current and future needs, it's has lots of potential.

many of our other picks are question marks? Brown is a good pass rusher..the rest is depth..whats there to be questionable about. We got a 1 and a 3 next year
