Keyshawn shunned by Chargers: It's gotta be the the Jets or Broncos next?

It would seem impossible that either the Bronco's Mike Shanahan or the Jet's Eric Mangini not trying in earnest to sign KJ in response to the signing of Randy Moss to New England. Green Bay would be an obvious landing spot, but Keyshawn has loftier (see below) visions.

WR Keyshawn Johnson wants to play for a contender at this point in his career, and his agent expressed Johnson's interest in playing for the Chargers in a phone call to the team yesterday, sources said. Sources also said the Chargers told agent Jerome Stanley they are not interested in Johnson. Johnson was released Monday by the Carolina Panthers. With 70 catches for 815 yards last season, the 34-year-old former No. 1 overall draft pick is seemingly still a capable receiver. But the Chargers already have multiple receivers of similar capabilities.

they dont want to pay for an older WR..they are comfortable with Vincent,Parker and 1st rounder Davis

Meshawn can still play. People in Charlotte were shocked to see him released. It was assumed he would groom Jarrett. But perhaps the Panthers were afraid of what MESHAWN might teach his understudy. He's a strong personality, set in his ways, and maybe NOT the best fit for many teams. IMO, it will be funny if no one wants him!

He can still be a good number 2 or 3 receiver. Someone will take him, but he might have to be willing to play for a lesser team. I think the Titans are a good place for him to go. They have a shot at a wild card and are sorely in need of receivers.

what about the Steelers to replace Plaxico, who they still haven't found anyone to replace him, Ben had good chemistry with Plaxico.

They have similiar skill sets.

I think he will end up in New Orleans. He played for Sean Payton in Dallas, the Saints need a vet WR familiar with their system and Keyshawn needs/wants to play for a contending team.

Seems like a perfect match to me.

Who will be the veteren presence? I'm not saying he will be the number 1 guy but of the 3 guys you just mentioned one is in his second year and another is a rookie. The only guy that could be a leader in that group is Henderson with 4 years. I don't think it would be a bad idea to have a solid vet that adds depth on the cheap.

Just my speculation of course, but I think it is more likely that he will land in a place where he has ties to the coaching staff and has legitimate chance to play in a SuperBowl. Right now the place that best fits that scenario is New Orleans IMO.

He is a good leader but I don't think he jived with the new coaching staff.

I don't think the Chargers are a stupid organization..As a matter of fact I think they have one of the best ones in the NFL and cannot be compared to a Matt Millen type run team.

They simply don't feel he is right for their team just like we felt that Hartwell was not a good fit.

A team that has put a powerhouse together in a very short amount of time cannot be looked at as stupid - Getting Merrimen and Castillo in the same draft proves they are pretty good at who they bring in to fit the team.

They're dumb. I was comfortable with Stallworth, Welker, Washington, Jackson, etc. Doesn't mean it isn't smart to grab a better guy.

Johnson had a ton of catches last year, and goes over the middle very well.

I heard that Cromartie has been a bust and disappointment in San Diego.
Hopefully Davis is just as big of a flop but I think AJ is a pretty good GM so he should hit on at least 50% of his picks this year.

This one is pretty interesting, especially since the secondary was supposed to be the weakness of the Chargers. Drayton Florence has one of the best stop rates in the league, 63%, and Quentin Jammer's stop rate is just 47%. But they allow roughly the same yards per pass (6.1 for Florence, 6.5 for Jammer), because Florence allows double the yards after catch.

Nickel cornerback Antonio Cromartie also has a 63% stop rate. He's allowed 8.4 yards per pass, which doesn't look good until you see that the average pass we've charted against him is 20.3 yards in the air. That's the highest of any cornerback with at least 30 charted passes by a good THREE YARDS. (Fred Thomas, by the way, is second. He really has been super torch-o-licious over the second half of the year.)

Donnie Edwards, like Lance Briggs, is one of the top five linebackers in the number of passes charted with him as the primary defender."
