From Boston Globe:

Patriots eye ex-Bears DL
May 3, 2007

Continuing to explore options, the Patriots hosted veteran defensive lineman Ian Scott yesterday at Gillette Stadium.

Scott, 25 , enters his fifth NFL season after four years in Chicago.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 302-pound Scott is one of the top defensive linemen available in free agency, having appeared in 49 regular-season games with 33 starts, as well as a start in Super Bowl XLI.

Scott has visited the Vikings, Broncos, and Falcons, while the Bears would consider bringing him back.

Scott was considered more of a run stuffer when the Bears drafted him in the fourth round out of Florida, projected to play a similar role as burly veterans Ted Washington and Keith Traylor, who plugged the middle of Chicago's 4-3 defense.

Scott lost his starting job to Tank Johnson in 2006, before regaining it after Johnson got into off-field trouble

Re: Ian Scott visits

Were he to play here would he be a DE or a NT?

Re: Ian Scott visits

Not sure this is a priority. Not quite as unnecessary as looking at say Keyshawn Johnson at this point but close.

I'm guessing he's only here to drive up the price for other teams looking for help along the DLine like the Jets and Bills.

I will eat my shirt if Johnson is even brought in for a look.

I actually think a competent backup at NT is little higher on the priority list than most think.

At what cost though, he more like "starter" material than back-up, NO?

Admittedly, I don't know much about though, cept that he stepped in when Tank went..... well, in the tank.

Cost is definitely an issue. As is Scott's desire to be a starter.

I just think that NE's interest is legitimate. I also think that they will be willing to give him more money than some here would think.

Re: Ian Scott visits

How can we afford this?

When is enough enough?

Completely off topic, Sean, I love your new Avatar, Meriweather looks like a kick ass dude in that picture. I'm sure Rodney will help him focus his aggressions apropriately :D

It doesn't hurt to at least look at him. He'd probably be better than Hill.

Re: Ian Scott visits

#2 NT is one of the positions on the team that could definitely be upgraded. At least as long as the staff is reluctant to use the DEs at NT.

??? I think our WR corps is adequate for the job. ILB and CB are the only areas that we really need help.

Re: Ian Scott visits

per Adam Schecter of NFLN;

Ian Scott signed by the Phil. Eagles to a 1 yr contract

Maybe this was more in the way of a getting-to-know-you visit for some future year?

I'D probably be a better option than Hill, and I'm 44yo, 5'11" 200. Hill has been a complete waste of protoplasm (and roster space).

Thanks.

I searched through so many photos to find a good one of him.

Working on a sig. But i doubt i finish it anytime soon.
