Former Globe Patriots beat writer, Jerome Solomon, is back in his native Houston. He is host of a popular sports radio show there and also pens a great blog for the Houston Chronicle. He has some great comments about the Pats and their 2007 draft.

Here's the link and an excerpt:

You're probably tired of hearing how the Patriots are winners during the season, the draft and the offseason almost every year. Well, get used to it.

They did it again.

Why didn't some other team get Randy Moss from the Raiders, particularly if it only cost a fourth-round draft pick? Especially since Moss restructured his contract to take a nearly $7-million cut in base pay for this season and completely erase $11 million next year?

Familiarity + distance = perspective. Sounds like he bolted home out of that cubicle next to Wrong just in the nick of time. It would probably do Felger and Borges a world of good to move home and cover their hometown teams for a couple of seasons.

Good link, thanks. Always been a knowledgeable guy.

BTW I believe that the Texans picked uop John Abatte (sp??) from Wake Forest as an UDFA, I would have loved to see him suit up for us. A bit on the small side but plays big and intelligent IIRC.

I love that he answers each one of the comments for every article. That's really cool.

Maybe we could see if we could get Felger and Shaunessy assigned to cover the Houston or Az. team to help them get a fresh prespective.

I liked Abbate too. He is undersized but he made plays. I liked him even more after I saw something on Outside the Lines about how his brother was killed and he plays for him. At the end of every third quarter his parents would hold up there finger in the crowd and he would hold it up back. Eventually it became so big that the entire crowd starting doing it too. It was really cool to watch.

My guess is the reason other teams didn't do it was because he had a huge contract and would only restructure for the Patriots.

Nice find, thanks. I liked how it began and ended:

Patriots are creative and lucky ... Texans aren't, but they work hard

Would have taken some work, some creativity and some luck, but that's how championship teams are made. Ask the Patriots.

Very good find, bbaptiste.
Thanx!

Yup, That's Abbate X 2.

Abbate is short but his arms are actually about two inches longer than David Harris' arms and Abbate has massive legs.

Nah, he's the same old jerk. Now that he is in Houston, he feels it is his job to bash the Texans, not the Pats. So he bashed the Texans draft. The only reason he mentions the Pats is to use them as a weapon to bonk the Texans. He's still peeing in the punch; he just has a different punchbowl.
