With The 171st Overall Pick In The 5th Round, The Pats Take Clint Oldenburg

Next Pats Pick Is 9 Picks Away At 180

Sporting News has him ranked 30th overall amongst OTs...

War Room analysis
Strengths: Shows good quickness to get downfield to block on screen passes. Uses hands well, rarely allowing defenders to get into pads. Shows solid technique in pass protection. Is smart and adept at picking up stunts and blitzes. Is patient and lets pass rushers come to him. Is an efficient run blocker.

Weaknesses: Struggles to make blocks in open field; allows feet to get too close together and loses balance. Gets tossed aside by defenders in open field. Must add bulk to handle NFL defensive linemen. Must learn to maintain blocks a tad longer.

Bottom line: Oldenburg, a left tackle in college, projects as an NFL right tackle. He shows good technique, athleticism and smarts to become a solid backup.

he has a 30 overall rating according to scouts, inc.(their lowest possible)

another classic WHO? pick

2004 (Sophomore): Did not play against BYU due to neck strain...started on the offensive line in 10 games.

2003 (Freshman): Played as a reserve at tight end for the Rams. 2002: Redshirted.

Campbell County: All-state selection as a defensive end and tight end...picked to play in the Shrine all-star game...received the Milward Simpson Award given to Wyoming's top high school athlete in 2002...three-sport athlete who earned state and regional honors in two...placed second in the state in the discus in track as a junior...a finalist for the Wyoming National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame Award...two-time all-state and three-time all-conference choice.

Personal: Born Sept. 9, 1983 in Sheridan, Wyo...son of Steve Oldenburg and Gail Sherman...has one brother...full name: Clint Steven Oldenburg...majoring in technical journalism.

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Colorado State OT Clint Oldenburg measured a height of 6-foot-5 1/8 and a weight of 300 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash in 5.26 seconds and 5.29 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.74 seconds and the three-cone drill in 8.19 seconds. He measured a 30-inch vertical jump and an 8-foot-5 broad jump.

What type of blocking scheme did he play in Colorado?

Are we back at weak ex TE's as our o-line projects.
Dear Clint is weak, short armed and can't run block. Just like Gorin, Ashworth before him. Draft Kyle Young ffs!

He is competition for Britt. More likely he will be on Practice Squad and cut like Stevenson last year. We did need camp competition and a youngster in case of injuries, since our other OT practice squad player retired.

I agree but I wish they drafted bigger interior lineman to develop. With so many teams witching to a 3-4 def a mauler at RG will come in handy in a few years.

He who mauleth doth not get drafteth in the sixeth.

Watch his video

And BTW -- he's from Gillette. Ought to be an easy transition. :)

Gillette is in the middle of BFE. The largest open coal pit in the world is about 10 miles away. Lots of oil rigs there. Big energy over there...

Sup everybody I'm new here and a Diehard Broncos fan. But I joined just because you guys drafted Clint. Hes from my hometown and my Highschool. I use to watch him play as a Tightend when I was in like 8th grade. His dad was my football coach so its really cool to see someone that I know actually get drafted. I wish him luck and I hope they he makes the Pats and becomes sucessfull. Hopefully he will Make my hometown proud. Hes the first player from my School drafted in the NFL. :)

Welcome! Clint certainly is coming to a good situation for him as an enrollee in the now world famous Dante Scarnecchia Academy for Big Ugly Blockers (the Pats' Offensive Line Coach does a great job with late round talent). He looks like the more likely of the two Tackles drafted to be developed for the coveted Practice Squad Swing Tackle surprise. Hilliard, the other Tackle, is looking more like a player they move inside to Guard.

Thanks. And yea I like the situation he is put in to. I'm definatly rooting for him. The other day I was talking to someone about it and I said: It looks like he will win a Superbowl in a few years. I'm hoping for New England @ Denver in the title game. :)

Heres an article that our new paper had on him after the draft:
