I'd be suprised if both don't make it, at least to start the year. Washington will likely DQ himself in camp. Never been impressed with him.

Good riddance if that's the case. Washington is nothing but trouble and hasn't done anything since proclaiming himself "The Future," I'd much rather keep Reche(who is underrated and got a bad rap for a couple of bad plays) and Jabar(who came on very strong late).

I think on opening day 2008, Gaffney is the #3 reciever.

Why do you think this?
You asked "Who do you think that will be?" and the guy answered you.

I personally think Reche's size and style is too similar to Moss, Stallworth, & Washington to justify keeping him.
I personally don't think we should cut a guy whose size and style is similar to Moss, Stallworth, & Washington. Not that Caldwell's size and style is anything like those guys.

I also think that it will depend on how each does in pre-season and will have nothing to do with the fact that Caldwell had a good season with one bad game at the end, and Gaffney had a forgetable season with one good game at the end.

I'm not a huge Washington fan either. Many folks have wrote him into the depth chart in permanent marker and I don't know what he's done to deserve it.

My current depth chart looks like this:

Moss
Stallworth
Welker
Gaffney
Caldwell
Brown
Washington
Childress
Kight
Jackson (IR)

I say both, as they are both serviceable, and can only get better in the system. I say Washington gets cut as his value over the other two is not that great.

I think both will make it. We need guys who can compliment what we have in Moss, Stallworth, and Welker. Belichick went out his way to give unsolicited praise of both those guys on Sirius NFL radio yesterday (Washington and Jackson weren't mentioned in the interview).

People are far too hard on Caldwell for those two dropped balls. He wasn't the only one who had a bad game that day and wasn't the worst. Brady threw a horrible pick. Maroney fumbled the ball trying to go into the endzone which he was lucky that Mankins recovered it. Evans was the 12th man in the huddle. Vrabel and Bruschi got burnt by Dallas Clark several times. Yet, everyone seems to throw all the blame on Caldwell.

I don't buy this "he choked in the big game" crap either. The San Deigo game was probably far bigger for him at the time since it was a playoff game and he was going back to the team that didn't try to resign him. Not only did he want to win that game, he had something to prove.

We are going to need possession receiver and guys who can go over the middle. Caldwell is probably the best possession receiver we have on the roster and Gaffney can go over the middle.

At this point, I doubt that both make the team. But chances are one of them makes it.

Who do you think that will be?

My money is on Jabar. I think he is more of the prototypical Pats WR -- almost a poor man's Deion Branch.

Plus, from everything I've read he has a great personality and is well-liked in the locker room.

As far as Reche, I just think Caldwell gets lost in the numbers game. He was serviceable, but that's about it. I for one won't be sad to see he's gone.

I think both. Of the two, I think Jabar has much more potential.

Reche is a hard worker, but he runs choppy which is bad for a receiver. Gaffney's smooth as silk and I think he'll have a long career someplace.

There is no way in hell Welker isn't the slot WR.

I think he's going to beat Welker out for that position. In fact, I anticipate that by the end of this season he's on the field more often than Welker. I think he's a very underrated player. He was on a Texans team with no offensive line and still caught almost 70 balls in 2005. It took him three or four weeks to acclimate to our offense, and by the playoffs he was the best wideout on the field for us.

Wait and see. He's going to be our possession reciever. I'm not saying Welker isn't good, but I think Gaffney is going to make plays when he gets the chance this year.

Reche may get traded because his performance last year will bring some value in the market. More likely both Jabar and Rche stick around though and Jackson gets PUPed.

I'm no Reche hater, as he was a very valuable addition last year. He did have a few critical drops, but let's face it, the guy has never been more than a 3rd stringer since drafted.

That being said, Gaffney is my binky. Putting aside his great playoff production, he show flashes of immense talent as a possession receiver.

I think he has a MUCH greater upside than Caldwell, and unlike Reche seemed to thrive under the pressure of the playoff environment.

That end-zone catch against the Colts was the nail in Reche's coffin as far as I'm concerned.:rocker:

CONCUR & WILL NOT NEED TO ELABORATE

Jabar... playoff hero. Reche... dropped a big pass.

Reche had one of the biggest (and best) catches in Patriot playoff history to setup the game winning FG in San Diego

Caldwell will make the team guarenteed. If he has the training camp he had last year he is a lock.

Too bad we can't trade either of them because as good WRs with low salaries they'd probably be worth something to some team at the end of training camp should we not have any injuries (knock on wood)

Oh, wait! We can trade them!

... and the rich get richer

Trade bug eyes for a case of Sam Adams...

Yeah, but Moss (or Stallworth) catches that ball on the run and dances into the endzone :D

I think Gaffney makes it because he has more versatility. I also think Moss will get cut early in the season. He's not a Patriots type player. Let's hope Kelley Washington can contribute in the passing game.

Does someone want to tell me what Kelley Washington has done in his career to, in some peoples opinions solidify him as a WR on the roster while Reche gets cut even after having a 61 catch season?
