Sorry, i watch college ball and have always been a huge LB favorite.

I have my favorites like Urlacher, Carpenter, Posluszny.

Laurinaitis tops them all and its possible we get him. Why you ask after passing on all others?

Let me tell you why. He has the one thing this FO covets. Height, weight, speed and intelligence.

He is the total package.

I don't think the OLBs have different duties. Rush the passer and contain the run. I think the difference comes in the DL playing a one-gap and one LB playing the tight end one-on-one.
Sure, the outside contain assignment is arguably the same, but I have to wonder if a kid who gets 10 sacks as a rookie and 17 in 12 games as a 2nd year player is playing run or pass as his initial assignment?

OK, laugh all you want, fur balls.
I'm drinking the Kool-Aid.
So, whether it's Hall, Brinkley, Laurinaitis, Goff or the kid that beat out Lua should he declare early, I WANT an ILB with a high pick next year.

Is that so much to ask for the love of God?!!!

!:enranged:

Besides the guys we've talked about thus far, it is entirely possible that more come out of the woodwork over the course of next season. ie: a current JUCO LB that will play division 1 next year.

But more than likely we should be looking at pro Free Agents to find out next ILB.

:ditto:

Also, maybe a little reverse psychology is in order regarding an early LB. Let's convince ourselves that BB will only go the day two/FA route, then maybe he WILL draft one in the first. Then we won't be disappointed when he doesn't -- and thrilled when he does. Does this make any sense?

Add a CB to your reverse psychology list, Hobbs is the only guy signed beyond this year.

You never know BB&SP might shock us and draft 2 lbers with the 1st round:p :D

Or they could take 2 TE's in the first round next year, although TE looks really weak for next year's draft.

If Maroney gets hurt again this year, I would not be surprised to see another RB taken with one of the first rounders.

Can he cover the tight end or runningback coming out of the backfield?
You can never have enough linebackers who can cover with today's pass happy NFL. And I think that coverage ability was a BIG seling factor to the Patriots when they took Meriweather.

You win the prize. After seeing the Pats rolled over in 2002, BB made sure that the Pats wouldn't be soft down the middle again. After seeing the Pats chewed up with passes to RBs and TEs in 2006, you can believe that BB will make sure that gets dealt with as well. AThomas and Meriweather are steps one and two. Couple of other observations:
  • As quoted above, look for coverage ability if you want to figure out if 2008 is the year of the 1st day linebacker. Another clue: strong games against pro-style passing offenses.
  • Colvin is actually improved in coverage as well...which is why I think he is unlikely to be cut anytime soon
  • Wilson (when healthy) would be a fine pairing with Meriweather...forget the SS/FS distinctions. I think it is more likely the Pats retain Wilson (if healthy) than Samuel in 2008.

so, what positions are supposed to be good in next yrs draft?

Yes. When i say ive liked him better than the others coming out of college i mean i really like him better.

He is complete in every aspect of the word and if he puts up another great season and declares. He might be a top 3 taken next draft. :(

If 3 or 4 of the top sophomore RB's come out early, next year's draft will have some serious RB talent.
QB Brohm will probably ride the top of the board for most of the year.
There are a couple of really good LT types, led by Jake Long of Michigan.

CB could be fairly decent as well, especialy with Cason and Lowery. Other defensive positions shouldn't be that bad either.

TE looks weak and WR will need to be saved by underclassmen to be as strong as this year's group.

This far out it gets tricky, but I'm betting that the top junior RB's declare and make RB the strongest it's been in years.

Yep. The RB class is deeeeeeeeep and talented, brother.

McFadden, Slaton, Rice, Stewart, Ore, James Davis, Ian Johnson, Jamaal Charles, Andre Brown, Brad Lester, etc.

my favorite LBs for next year are Vince Hall and Xavier Adibi.

theres a lot of tall LBs ..who are already 235-240

Adibi is a great athlete..makes plays. would like to see him in Patriots uni
