Moss=Dillon in NE? Or no?

I have been hearing the arguments that...hey if the Pats can convert Dillon into a humble guy just by winning games and playoff games....then can they do the same with Moss? Do you think Moss will be more difficult? Will he honestly try to distance himself from the media like Corey? I love the Moss trade but I am unsure whether or not this is the same as when Corey came.

I'm not going to make that comparison. His situation is different. I think that if we have those expectations we might be disappointed if it doesn't work out that way. I don't know about you, but I'm taking a wait and see attitude about this.

You have to evaluate each guy, and not group all the 'character' issue players together like they're all the same and will behave the same way. Dillon's issues were different than Moss, Moss's are different than TO.

Both TO and Dillon, especially Dillon, worked hard. TO is nuts, Dillon was bitter, those were their character problems, but they did go all out on the field (except maybe not TO as much in Dallas in the end, but again, crazy guy). Dillon was fine when he was winning, that cured his bitterness, and there is no cure for the TO brand of crazy.

The knock on Moss is that he's lazy. If he works hard, does what Brady wants him to do without complaining or whining, does not give up on routes or show up his QB if he's not getting the ball....there will be no problem. I am not worried at all about off the field issues, despite some incidents in the past, Moss is not Pacman. It's on the field effort that is his 'character problem'.

I think like with Dillon, winning will cure a lot. In terms of the media, Moss can avoid them like Dillon did, I don't care, maybe that would help.

Every situation Moss has gone into, he has been in the spotlight..under a huge microscope..he now comes to a team, where personalities cease to exsist on a national scene(ALL everyone else gets out of the Pats is Bradys cresty white smile and BB's blank expressions)...Just being able to distribute the medias pressure to the whole team and a great coaching staff alone will make such a difference to the man.

I dont think you can compare Dillon and Moss, Dillon was a very out-spoken individual and had no shame in hiding the fact he HATED being on the bengals and would do anything to skip town. Moss on the other hand, is a man who has had the weight of the world every team he has gone onto, correct me if i am wrong but he was suppose to be the savior of the raiders..him and culpepper were suppose to be Montana and Rice in Minn...as far as that goes, in both situations Moss held up his end of the bargain (as much he could help in OAK) and when the teams didnt produce, all the BS fell onto him...it was his pot smoking, his lack of desire that killed the teams(according to the gods we call media). That ish wont fly here...Win as a team, Lose as a team.

In conclusion, the Result may very well be similar and Moss could possibly contribute a bit more than dillon did (Dillon is a superb back, but Moss is a talent that comes around once every 100 years, even at 30) but you cant compare the 2.

Here is where I think the comparisons match:

1 - Dillon was upset with losing in Cincy and being a great running back. Moss is a great wide receiver that was upset with losing in Oakland. That considered, both want to win to solidify their legacy in the NFL.

2 - Dillon was kept quiet after at first being vocal about his disappointment due to contract restrictions (fines). Moss has been quite vocal for the last year or two. While he has been vocal, he has presented a calmness to him. Almost an attitude of "it is what it is". Both wanted trades, but neither demanded a trade or else sit the bench. You can say that he wants his money, but the guy just gave up 15 mil or more and said he has enough money in the bank. He isn't worried about it.

3 - Obviously the locker room of the Patriots is the same. The veteran presence is there and it isnt as if they have had a significant change in the roster. You got Bruschi, Harrison, Seymour, Brady and now character veterans like Sammy Morris and Kyle Brady. I hope that Seau comes back as well. And then there is Bill.

4 - He fits a need on this team. There wasn't much of a running game before Dillon came on and last season had very little talent at wide out. Caldwell worked out, but it was clearly a bargain pick up with the potential of a high ceiling.

What is different is the positions they play.

Wide outs play on an island and tend to have big mouths when the ball isn't coming their way. And the ball doesn't always come their way. Moss thinks he is always open, but Welker might really be open.

RBs get the ball often. They are the running game as compared to a receiver being part of the passing game... no one receiver is the passing game. That is especially the past history of the Pats. If you want to be guaranteed to have the ball in your hands, you better be a QB, C or a RB.

That said...

Wide receiver is the ultimate TEAM position. You set up the running game, you block downfield for receivers, a scrambling QB and your RB. You don't always get the ball and you aren't always impacting the play, but you have to go out and play as if it is coming to you on every play. It is a selfless position that is full of selfish players that complain for doing their job. Maybe they fall into the basketball culture (ball hogs).

Can't compare the two............it remains to be seen so we need to get off it now. Moss hasn't even put the uniform on yet. We'll just have to wait and see.

I think the situation does have some similarities. When we win the superbowl and Moss breaks the Patriots WR yardage record. Then I'd say the comparison is spot on

As for Randy Moss. Their situations are different but similar. If Moss can come in, shut his mouth, and just play ball, I think he'll make a huge impact for us. In BB we trust. For a 4th round pick and only 3M for 1 year, this gamble is well worth it.
