49ers: I really like the way that Mike Nolan is building this team. PWillie will be a big upgrade at ILB, and Staley is their LT of the future. And they get a #1 WR in Darrell Jackson for only a 4th rounder. That roster is so much better than it was two years ago.

Seahawks: So Deion Branch is worth a 1st rounder while Darrell Jackson is worth only a 4th rounder. And you trade him to a division rival? I bet Seahawks management is taking a lot of heat for this up there.

Cardinals: Some are saying Levi Brown was a reach, but the pick had to be made. Otherwise, Leinart would be killed playing behind two horrible OTs. Now they are set protecting his blindside, and are a legitimate contender to win a mediocre division.

Saints: Sean Payton really knows how to build a roster. Robert Meachem was a steal, and completes one of the NFLs best offenses.

Bills: I like the pick of Dwayne Wright to compliment Lynch. They could have used more depth on defense though.

Bengals: Leon Hall was an obvious pick, and Kenny Irons should make a great compliment to Rudi Johnson.

Cowboys: Jerry Jones actually got one right. Got Cleveland's first round pick in '08, while still getting the player they needed in Anthony Spencer.

Broncos: Shanahan finally is getting that he can't rely solely on Cleveland castoffs to build a D-line. But he was then back to his old tricks in taking turd Marcus Thomas.

Lions: Millen made the right move, he had to take Johnson. Gaines Adams just isn't worth the #2 pick.

Chiefs: Where's the O-line help?

Jets: Revis and Harris are two good building blocks, but they're still a year away from realistically challenging the Pats.

Redskins: Landry is a good player, but it just doesn't make sense pairing him up with Taylor. They are basically the same player, great talents but a little undisciplined. DL was a much bigger need than safety, so they should have drafted Anderson or Okoye.

Colts: Nice draft. Filled needs at WR, CB, DT, SS, and SLB. The only need they didn't fill was RB. The surprising move was trading into the second round to get Ugoh. It's clear that this was done with the intention of letting Tarik Glenn walk as a free agent next year, and having Ugoh step in as his replacement. He is a bit of a project, but has all the measurables to do it. Nice forsight on Polian's part.

how shocking...a colts homer bragging off a mediocre draft as 'nice'...

I don't think you've read my posts over the past few months. I'm not a homer. And I didn't say it was the greatest draft in the league, just that it was pretty good and it met a lot of needs. And I believe that I talked about a few other teams as well. :)

What would you expect?
Curious he / she comes to a Pats forum to talk about the draft, and doesn't provide his / her insight on the Pats draft?

At least now I can sleep tonight, having receiving this valuable information from an expert.

I found it interesting that you didn't comment on the Pats draft, give how linked at the hip these 2 teams are. What did you think about what the Pats did?

I'm busting on you.

But--feel free to add your views on the Chargers' and Ravens' drafts...

Well, there's not a lot to say b/c you didn't pick all that many players! And I think many other people are talking about Moss and Merriweather, so there was really no reason for me to give an opinion about it. But since you asked. Moss is low risk considering the contract, and high reward considering the talent. If Belichick thinks he can keep him in line, I'm not sure why a fan or writer should suggest otherwise.

As for Merriweather, I wasn't surprised considering I had the Pats picking him in my mock draft. Belichick obviously spent a lot of time around him and was comfortable with him. There's no reason to talk much more about it because nobody can really predict whether these guys will misbehave again or not.

Chargers: This is a team stacked with talent, so AJ Smith went into the draft simply looking to find a potential starting WR and safety, along with depth at MLB. He felt that Craig Davis is a better fit for Norv Turner's offense than Dwayne Jarrett or Gonzalez, and I can see sense in that move. He must have felt that Weddle was the #5 safety in the draft, so trading a few picks for him makes sense. The Chargers and the Pats didn't need a lot in the draft, so it makes sense why they would be willing to trade some of their picks.

Ravens: Ozzie Newsome has clearly showed that he knows what he's doing, so he should always get the benefit of the doubt. Anyway, their picks made sense. They improved the OL, added depth at LB and WR, got the best fullback in the draft, and got great value in Troy Smith. My only question is whether they have the OTs to replace Jonathan Ogden if he retires next year.

Speaking of the Chargers, their fans seem to be disturbingly pre-occupied with the Pats as of late. Check out some of these message threads:

17 pages so far! That’s more than we discussed Moss!

I can't believe how pissed off they still are over the playoff game. Get over it! We don't still harp on the bad behavior of many of their players after they beat us in 2005.

You seem to have missed the most important part. The Colts gave up their 2008 first round pick!

If that turns out to be a top ten pick, Ugoh is going to look pretty ridiculous.

If there isnt much point in talking about it because nobody can predict whether they will misbehave, why talk about any draft or pick, because it is even more difficult to predict whether the players will bust or be good.

Well, the Ugoh pick was for the 2008 season anyway. I don't expect much in 2007, he'll backup Tarik. But with Glenn set to be a free agent after this season, the pick was done with replacing him in '08 as the objective. LTs are rarely found in the middle rounds, and many had said that the position had little depth in this draft. If we're once again picking towards the back of the first round, we likely wouldn't be able to find an LT who can start next year. Sure it will look bad if the Colts are picking in the top ten, but I don't think the Colts expect that to happen obviously.

i think san diego pretty much screwed over the titans by not trading them turner.

titans had jarrett or a wr for their 1st pick but took griffin for us , thinking a turner trade was imminent and we would be drafting jarrett for them.

the trade broke down, we drafted davis (because we assumed indy wouldn't let us get him to our 62nd pick - he worked with reggie wayne's dad so it's believed he could have been an option above gonzo at 32.

so we have to take our 3rd option at 30 (first two being griffin and meachem, but new orleans scooped up meachem before he could get to us) and then we have to give up our extra picks to move up and get weddle since we're no longer getting griffin (our #1 option)

then the titans reach up to get chris henry with their 50th pick.

so we pretty much got our 2nd choice among safety that was left and our 1st choice among wr that was left.

i kinda feel bad for the titans, they didn't need safety as much as wr, but they got griffin who's good and will probably beat out their 2nd safety and start with hope and i believe they got jason hill wr who's pretty good.

chris henry though, not who they wanted at all, i think that was a panic move.
