would cut Ricky Williams even if he's reinstated. Do you think it would be a good idea to bring him into TC at the vet minimum. If he's close to being the RB he once was ( He'd have to prove it in TC ) he'd be in the same situation as Moss, something to prove and a chance to get the ring. Not a bad backup !!

Just a thought

I think Saban would endorse him, he liked Williams a lot and I heard over the weekend that after 2005 when Williams and (then rookie) Ronnie Brown were splitting carries that the Dolphins' staff graded out Williams ahead of Brown.

i think you guys getting ricky , coupled with randy, would set up some pot jokes that might never end.

Imagine how fast the writers would be yappin about more character concerns for the Pats if they signed Williams. I'd do it, for the vet minimum. He most likely still has some gas left in the tank to be productive.

That being said, imagine the pot that could be had in the locker room with Stallworth, Moss, and Williams. Wow!

Haha. Jcdavey stole my little bit o' thunder.

NO!

Why do people think we have a roster spot available at running back?

We have:

Starter: Maroney

Solid proven NFL backup/relief guy: Sammy Morris

Excellent 3rd down back: Kevin Faulk

Pounder blocking/goal line back: Heath Evans

How many RBs do you guys think we will carry on the roster?

OK, Let's assume for sake of argument that hitting the bong is out of the picture. The only way I see that playing a factor, is if the FO is worried that having too many weed lovers will cause them to step over the line. Considering it's their last chance, I really don't see them being that stupid, so let's assume it's no a factor.

I always liked Ricky. I don't think he's the head case people made him out to be. I think Moss, on the other hand, has more baggage.

That being said, Moss can still physically play well. I think Ricky has lost it. Spent time out of football, played in a weak CFL, lost a lot of weight. You can't come back and be the player you were that easily.

So, no, i'm not interested. I'd rather have a guy with skills and mental baggage, than a stand up guy without skills.

Moss > Ricky

Other then the one rookie, where's the competition and depth at TC ???

I'm for it. Who do we have now behind Maroney? Sammy Morris, Justise Hairston, and Quadtrine Hill. While I hope one of Hairston or Hill develops into a player we could use frequently, if Maroney goes down, I'm not very confident in our running game. Williams would excel in our zone blocking scheme, because, while he's bigger than Maroney, he's also smart and has decent speed (better than some typical smashmouth runner like Dillon). Williams is also a pretty good pass catching RB, so we could even use him for 3rd downs if Kevin Faulk, who's durability has been questionable the past couple of years, is injured or tired.

bottom line: he wasnt even the best RB in the CFL while he was there

If they bring in Ricky, Pioli quits and Kraft hires Cheech & Chong as the new co-GMs.

Give me a frigging break. Heath Evans is NOT a goal-line back. He STINKS at short yardage.

Also, I suggest you go back and review the AFCCG when the Pats had 3 RBs injured and unable to play and had to rely on Evans to be the every down back. It was horrible and it was one of the reasons the Pats couldn't move the ball in the 2nd half and couldn't keep the Colts offense off the field.

Now, that being said, the Pats may not have that issue this year with Morris. But Faulk has had one injury or another each of the last 3 years that caused him to miss significant time. Do you REALLY want to play the odds that Faulk can stay healthy the WHOLE season?

I don't know...do you want to play the odds that Ricky Williams is still the player he once was?

Williams is a complete lunatic, from what I've seen and read, even recently, and I am not advocating getting him. However, I don't know why he'd have to be 'still the player he once was' to help this team. Half of Ricky Williams is still more than 100% of Heath Evans toting the rock, just as an example.

Ricky is done. You can't miss that much live action and still be effective at that position.

Goal line as in blocking back on short yardage packages. A role player.

Morris was a good pickup because he is experienced both as a lead back and a 3rd down back. He's your backup for both Maroney and Faulk.

Maroney, Faulk, Morris, Evans. Where's your roster spot? The only opening I see is for somebody to beat out Evans as a blocking back.

Plus he clearly DOES NOT want to play football anymore.

NO chance, even if available.

If he's not interested in returning to the NFL, then why is he applying for reinstatement?
