Why all the Negativity?

Why all the Negativity?
because he's a cancerous quitter, and everyone hates him (cept for fans who make excuses for him)

hell most of you guys hated him before trading for him

now it's trust in BB

but that's cool, ya gotta support your team

bingo,

I was not in that faction that hated Moss before he came here, but there were many who were, and justifiably so

Moss wasn't on anyone's radar until he went to NE.

i had posts on my own board saying not to sign him even if he's cut outright, i just don't like the locker room risk and the fact he's been quitting on his team since his minnesota days.

maybe NE can get something out of him, they've done it in the past.

Don't you believe that the lockeroom will not tolerate his attitude?

I mean guys like Brady, Bruschi,Seymour and Harrison will keep him in check or take him out back in a dark alley and show him something.

As for quitting on his team in Minn and Oakland there is no excuses for that. I do believe people deserve second chances without being ridiculed for past infractions, after all we all have done stupid things in the past.

Negativity and bad news sell newspapers and jams up phone lines at radio shows.

Simple formula and very prevalent in New England.

No surprise.

This is exactly what we all expected when the Moss trade went down.

If the New England media can make a negative out of thw Adalius Thomas signing, they are going to have a field day with this Moss trade. It's completely to be expected.

my own philosophy is , team chemistry is important and you take care of your own, at least the ones who deserve it, who aren't malcontents.

i believe in moss's case, NE feels they can change him, and maybe they can. i don't think san diego could have, i don't think alot of teams could have. the one thing i'll give NE is, they're not alot of teams, they're NE, so maybe it will all work out.

it just seems NE has gone so drastically to the other side of the spectrum this offseason, with what they normally do.

Moss does not liked to be preached to or talked down to... but IMO, NE does stand the best chance to keep him in check. Winning always helps. But once Moss gets his arrogant swagger back, there's no telling what will happen. How will the fans treat him if he walks off the field with 30 seconds left on the gameclock... even if they're winning?

Here's how it goes down:

1) Moss has indicated that he will give up tangibles to be part of the NE magic.

2) Moss has indicated that he will try to conform in terms of intangibles (see recent attempts at Patspeak in interviews.)

3) What we do not know is whether the paradigm shift he is attempting to embrace will take root, take hold, whatever.

4) What we do know is that his football gifts are incredible - and this is shored up against the "Moss lost a step" crowd by that recent 40 time.

Hey guys, worst case scenario? We lose $3M, a little more than we were slated to pay a kicker a couple years back -- and in the wake of the greatest 2-year run-up in cap dollar inflation in history. And we get the chance to take this very minor risk, at the cost of a fourth round draft pick.

Mr. Moss has made it very palateable for us all to find out what he can/will do in the NE environment.

He's 30 this year, and evidently is trying to embrace acting like a grownup on and off the field. Well, here's his first test, the media.

I'm still pumped up from the draft and seeing this in exaggerated terms no doubt, but I think this is a make-or-break spiritual journey for him. He can either come to terms with team-first, or he can't... but we know one thing, and it's a positive. He very much wants to.

There's an old joke.

How many psychoanalysts does it take to change a light bulb?

One. But the light bulb has to want to change.

The Patriots FO is the team that has been responsible for the creation of the high level of conduct from its players - why would they abandon it?

It has been successful in terms of creating a winning forumla whilst maintaining these high standards.

I look at Corey Dillon and Moss and see guys who have been stuck on teams that aren't just bad, but flat out hopeless.

I don't see a correlation with Owens who I believe has some very serious mental issues - its a lazy comparison.

If I had to work for the Corey Dillon era Bengals or the Moss era Raiders I, too, might find myself unmotivated - they have been scandalously poor both on and off the field.

I have no idea why hate and negativity sells in Boston - im not from there so I don't want to make too many leaps in deduction.

If Moss went to Green Bay he would have still been the same guy that hated Oakland - they have almost as many FO woes as the Raiders.

Like Dillon, Moss knows his legend will be forged with rings not printed on dollar notes - money is transitory - legend is permanent.

Welcome to the team, Randy.

Please elaborate more on why you feel that "New England has gone so drastically to the other side of the spectrum this offseason, with what they normally do."

The Boston media loves anything negative. Any issue that they can find will be dragged up day after day.

Look at the Meriweather deal. Everyone had a fit! Yes, he was stupid getting involved in that on-the-field fight, but that was a one time issue. Not a huge deal. The other issue is that He fired a gun in self defense! People freak out that he owned again. Hello??? This is a free country, and owning a gun isn't a character flaw or "a red flag". Many times its a good idea. I've heard some people took him off there board. I love it when other teams make stupid choices -- it helps us so much! :singing:

As for Moss, the media want him to melt down. They are going to keep bringing up his past. Moss HAS had several major problems. It does seem that he is trying to change. Obviously the 6 million dollar pay cut shows that he is sincere. But people (Especially the media) concentrate on the negative, even if they have to ignore all the good.

Comparisons between Moss and Dillon seem wrong to me. Both were sick of losing, but I don't believe Dillon ever quit on his team. I also don't remember Dillon getting in as much serious trouble.

Many people in the media are going to be watching for Moss to screw up (Like I wait for T.O. to screw up in Dallas!). It's up to Moss to prove them wrong.

IN ADDITION:

I do not think the Patriots have changed thier philosophy. BB has said many times that he will improve the team in any way he can. I don't feel BB has ever had a problem taking someone with issues in thier past. One of the elements in the Patriot teams under BB have been that they do not allow these episodes once you are on the team. I can't remember anything serious happening on a Patriots BB coached team that wasn't taken care of swiftly.

Yeah, that San Diego locker room is filled with such class and leadership, wouldn't want to poison that. Go have some Purple Drank.

they don't normally redskin their offseason, and pick up bad character players

i'm sorry, but it's true, they don't

acting like this is typical patriot offseason procedure, would be outright lying to yourself

i'm not saying it won't work out, i'm just saying it's a complete 180 from typical pats procedure (cept for the asante situation)

haha again, someone who thinks i'm trying to smack talk

i'm just pointing out how this isn't typical pats procedure, but go ahead and smack my team around all ya want, they've earned it

actually now that you mention the purple drank

i could see NE taking a chance on terrance kiel, it would make sense with everything else that has gone on this offseason

they don't normally redskin their offseason,

Stop.

They picked up guys who can help the team using money they had under the cap. Snyder sees a big name and he throws money at them, regardless of need or fit. That's a big difference. Would you rather the Pats didn't pick guys up, even at an affordable price? I don't recall not looking to improve the team when possible ever being the Patriot Way.

1.) Colvin springs to mind when talking about free agents.

2.) Bryan Cox and Dillon spring to mind when talking about 'bad character' guys, as well as Ty Law, for that matter. This team doesn't take on a lot of those sorts of players, but this is far from unprecedented.
