I will be rooting for Kareem, obviously, but my initial take is this was a wasted pick on par with Marquise Hill. A bust in waiting.

I'll admit it. I was a little dissapointed with the pick. Ofcourse their value board is different than mine. Who knows? Maybe he is the next John Randle ? I can't pretend that I know more than them.

I would be more excited over a DB or LB myself. Brown made **** Vermeil tear up during the Senior Bowl with his run stuffing and ability to absorb blockers to keep Patrick Willis clean. He has that going for him.

He has excellent upside for where we picked him. Will he fully utilize his ability ? Who knows. He has a good coaching staff and some buddies from The U, Wilfork and Meriweather, so let's see how it develops.

**** Vermeil would tear up just watching an ant crawl across a sidewalk.

You're right about the Coaching BB. Being taught the right way is extemely important.

I had to go read up on him a little and it seems he's more of a Bobby Hamilton type than a John Randell. At 6-4 he's probably too tall to be a back up to Vince at NT even if he can add the bulk.

Natural space eater who will generally be occupied by multiple blockers, but is still capable of making plays in the short area … More of a pocket pusher, as he lacks pass rush moves but has the initial quickness and burst, along with hand punch, to ride the offensive lineman back into the pocket and seal the deal … Hard worker who puts in extra hours in the training room, evident by his improved upper body strength that he took advantage of to toss blockers aside

Good bull rusher, but outside of an effective rip move, he lacks the technique or array of moves you expect in a pass rusher.

Yeah, I remember that, it was laughable. He met Brown in an elevator and fell in love. When Vermeil gets a shine for a D-lineman, it's not a good sign (see Siavii, J., and Sims, R.) Even so, like a prodigal child, we welcome Kareem with open arms. May he prosper and cease to be a turd.

Um, what turd status does he have?

7th round grade imo

Why is everyone so down on him? he had 11.5 sacks last year

The guy has historically lacked technique and effort.

They obviously think there's a substantial likelihood this will change.

I just wish there had been a guy with a true NT build worthy of a 4th-round pick. Classic mid-round grab and a need, but just wasn't there this year.

Same people who are crapping on him likely crapped on Meriweather....

He was an underachiever for part of his career but started to develop and live up to his potential during his senior year. At times he can be dominant, so he could surprise all those who think NE reached for him. Also, you're the only people I'm seeing who think it was a reach.

Yeah I don't understand how dt from a major school who gets 11.5 sacks last year is called a reach when he's picked in the end of the fourth round

Can the kid at least play a little before calling him a bust?

Hmm, funny you should say that...here's the writeup on Brown from the invaluable lineman specialists, NorthwestScouting.com:

11. Kareem Brown, Miami

6’ 4” 300

An inside penetrator who gets off the snap quickly and gets a good push on the pocket. Has a solid bull rush. Possesses a good combination of strength and agility. Plays with leverage, stacks, sheds and stands up well versus the run. Can be disruptive. Stays in pursuit and closes quickly when ball carrier is in sight. Lacks great balance and tends to rise up in his stance when winded. Doesn’t always get of blocks well. Relies too much on his power rush. On the ground too much. Inconsistent. Plays tentative and doesn’t appear to be very instinctive. Played at 320 lbs., but dropped 25 lbs. preparing for the Draft. Has some talent and some upside. 2006 was his first standout season, so concerns on whether he can do it year in and year out are understandable. Not a great athlete or standout performer as some have suggested. Fourth/fifth rounder. Similar to: Ryan Sims.

Not great but similar to high first round draft choice.

Don't you love these draft write-ups???

Can you really call a D-linemen drafted in the late 4th round a bust? At that point your kinda hoping for the guy to make the roster really. Hill, drafted in the second round, even though late, is a bust. 2nd rounders should be eventual contributors/starters at some point. To date, Hill has been completely MIA.
