Talk about giving defensive coaches nightmares.... Putting a 5 WR set on the field that has Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Gaffney and Caldwell in it...

Or a 5 WR set with Moss, Stallworth, Watson, Welker, and Caldwell.

Or 4 Receiver set with Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Watson, and Faulk as the RB.

ya it's gonna be nasty. i'm already looking at the matchups and single coverage. the big thing will be for the line to be able to hold the blocks long enough which they had trouble with at times early in charger game and against miami.

i sincerely hope they bring in the halfback draw for maroney with the 4 wr set.

.

everyone here vastly overrates Gaffney. he is the definition of "replacement level". the guy was literally on the street when we picked him up, he is NOT better than anyone else's #4 wr.

Caldwell was deemed expendable by a team who doesn't have good WR's. he's not much better than JAG.

look how many catches he had against the Jets in the playoffs... he's better than average and I like the mismatch of him against their 3rd or 4th cb

Yeah if Gaffney and Caldwell can be used as the fourth or fifth wide receivers they will be very good options. They are not suited to be starters and now they won't have to be. Players can still be an assett even if they are not focal points.

Remember you said yesterday that Moss and Stallworth was just a "wet dream" of mine? Good luck to opposing DB's guarding the Pats recievers.

Gaffney IS better than MANY people's #4 and its honestly ridiculous to say otherwise. Just look at his stats from a LOUSY Texans team. Yes, I understand he got cut in Philly, but that was because they got Stallworth, already had Lewis and Ronnie Brown and then picked up Hank Baskett from the Vikings. As well as drafting Jasan Avant. Gaffney is a possession receiver. No one is saying otherwise.

Now, as for your ridiculous comments about Caldwell. They had Vincent Jackson who they wanted to make room for and they couldn't do that with Caldwell there. Jackson, Parker and McCardell were a very good top 3 receiving corps. Especially when you consider that Gates and Tomlinson are 2 of their top 5 receiving options.

Yes, it was. And I am still flabergasted that the Pats pulled it off. Especially with all the reports during the draft saying that it wasn't happening.

BTW, I hope you didn't mess up your keyboard :p

It's kind of nuts. To be honest, I was perfectly happy with Caldwell, Gaffney, Jackson (if healthy) going into 07 and we've added a bunch of studs....so many weapons.

And don't sleep on Kelley Washington. I know it seems much less likely he'll make the team now, but he seemed motivated, and he'll still be given a chance to prove himself.

Plus, we still don't know the timetable for CJ, can't write him off as PUP yet.

I think Washington is going to be given every chance to beat out Caldwell and Gaffney.

It's hard to believe, but BB goes out and acquires Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Donte Stalworth, and Kelly Washington and people still seem to think he was impressed with the contributions of Gaffney and Caldwell.

Probably because those much maligned receivers had the team on the verge of returning to the Super Bowl. Last year's receiving corps was not a great one, but it would have been good enough to get the team to the Super Bowl if the defense hadn't collapsed in the second half.

I'm thrilled that the team has added the receivers it has, but that doesn't mean we should crap all over those who gave this team their all last year.

Well I don't think it was Caldwell and Gaffney that got us to the verge of the Superbowl, but you're right - they were our receivers. I don't think they're good enough to start in this league and only put up the numbers they did because they had Tom Brady at QB. I am very grateful for their efforts, though and am not crapping all over them - that was Keegs, I believe. I'm sure the Pats are grateful too. Hopefully, they'll garner us a draft pick and not simply get cut.

Caldwell showed that he can be a #2 receiver in this league, and I don't know how anyone can deny that while they are sober. Having said that, on the New England Patriots this year, he's going to be the #4 receiver (Moss/Stallworth will be 1 and 2 in whichever order and Welker will be the #3 because he'll be the top slot receiver).

That's probably going to leave Troy, Gaffney, Washington, Kight and Childress all battling for 1-2 spots, with Jackson likely going PUP/IR. Troy Brown may make this team as a DB more than a receiver.

Did you even watch football last season? Gaffney was great. He was clearly the best receiver we had by the time the playoffs rolled around. And that, without the benefit of an offseason with the team.

Judge the facts of what you see, not by what the rest of the idiots in the league think. By your logic, Tom Brady would be selling car insurance in Cali today.

if Jabar Gaffney was released tomorrow, where do you think he would end up? do you think he would be the #1, #2, or #3 WR for any other team in the NFL?

please spare me the stuff that "Brady made him better". his value should be 100% separated from the QB he happens to play with. he is what he is.

wtf does that mean?
