Re: Current roster (4 UDFA spots available); Offseason Calendar

Rosevelt Colvin is absent from your list.

Re: Current roster (4 UDFA spots available); Offseason Calendar

Where's Colvin? :D

Thanks for the list. I was hoping someone would do that.

Re: Current roster (4 UDFA spots available); Offseason Calendar

Don't see a lot of room for the rooks on this years squad. I wouldn't be surprised if only a couple of drafted players make it.

Re: Current roster (4 UDFA spots available); Offseason Calendar

By opening day, cut:

RB Hairston
FB Hill
WR Kight, Childress, Smith
TE Kranchick
OT Hilliard, Oldenburg, Britt
OG Mruczkowski
C Barthelmes, Elgin
DE Hill, Thomas
NT Smith
OLB Rogers
ILB Mays, Lua
CB Richardson, Williams, Spann, Jackson
S Baker, Mitchell, Hawkins
P Baugher, Malone
LS Case

This gives us 52 players. Woops.

Yeah, I accidentally listed Vrabel twice.

Jackson (Eddie, or both) will definitely go on PUP.

Mitchell or Hawkins will stay.

Mays and Smith will probably stay.

Either Brown or Hill will be cut, unless Brown converts to NT.

Hilliard, Oldenburg, or Britt will stay.

(That gives...what...60? :D)

Re: Current roster (4 UDFA spots available); Offseason Calendar

ah ... this is my favorite part. Trying to predict the 53.

Don't write off Hairston quite yet ... he is a big-move-the-pile back who could compliment Maroney nicely.

Last year BB got Mincey and Woods, and one stuck. I think this will be the case with Justin Rodgers and Lua. My money is on Rodgers making it. He's got the size that you need for that position, 6-4, 250 lbs.

Brown looks like a DE to me. This very well could be Hill's last TC to show up. People probably yawned when Brown got picked, but don't forget that Warren's contract is coming up.

Not counted on roster till they sign with club

Re: Post-Draft roster (4 UDFA spots available); Offseason Calendar

While I believe that unsigned draftees do not count towards the

80 man roster, it depends what Bill Belichick's philosophy would be

with regard to signing 10 more UFDAs. He may not think it's fair to sign

these extra players only to cut them one by one before training camp

as each draftee is signed.

Good job pats1.Thanks ;) ;)

It was almost a similar one last year...with maybe a FEW more spots open...but many were cut..inbetween April/May and Training camp

Re: Post-Draft roster (4 UDFA spots available); Offseason Calendar

ALSO with 4 players in Europe they don't count.

Another slam at our European Pats fans

wow....let the slicing begin!

Only 3 - Barthelmes, Malone, Baugher.

Re: Post-Draft roster (4 UDFA spots available); Offseason Calendar

This aptly illustrates the strategic genius of BB - this team, with the exception of depth at key areas, was well positioned to make a SB run even before the draft.

The draft of course was all about quality over quantity, using draft picks to move up next year when there will be more of a free agent turnover.

Given the lack of available roster spots, many of our draftees would have been looking at Practice Squad spots at best - and draftees on the practice squad stand a higher chance of being scooped up by other teams

Instead BB pushed draft picks into next year at higher value and rounds out the squad with UFAs - any or all of whom he's likely hand selecting because they might be better fits for our system - and of course as UFAs they likely won't be touched by other teams.

Wise and strategic moves indeed

(and while we're talking genius and strategy - by next year we could be talking about the fact that trading #28 for a possible Top Ten pick next year and some guy named Randy Moss could well be one of the best trades ever made)

Re: Post-Draft roster (4 UDFA spots available); Offseason Calendar

Thanks, Pats1. Really useful. I notice they're not ranked "alphabetically," so is this your personal view on the depth chart or is the Patriots'? Thanks again.

Personal view on the depth chart...which at this point is obviously pretty crude.
