The draft isn't about what you would have liked it's about what Belichick and Pioli like.
I think this is a stupider post than aabtec's. I think this because instead of actually raising a point, and trying to bring about discussion, like aabtec's did, his simply dismisses any discussion on abstract terms. Obviously the draft is about what Belichick and Pioli like. Just because not everyone understands their logic doesn't make their arguments dismissable.
Here is my actual response to aabtec's original question. For everyone else's sake, here it is.
I have to wonder if this was a throw away draft. The Pats traded away almost all of the picks that could have helped this team.
We have problems at Safety, CB and MLB. We addressed Safety but we still problems at CB and LB but we did not address either. Instead we picked up a proven head case/quitter in Randy Moss.

Yes, the Patriots traded away many of the picks. However, there were good reasons that they did these things. Here are the reasons that make the most sense to me.
#1 I was under the impression that Adalius Thomas was hired to play ILB. If he was not, then he will play OLB and Vrabel will go inside again. Either way, the position is filled. We did add more depth with Lua and Rogers on Day 2, and there are still plenty of UDFAs and regular FAs out there.
#2 With two first round picks and a third round pick, we would not have had enough cap space to sign and keep everyone on our rostly, namely Asante. Essentially, he could hold us hostage and/or not play this year.
#3 The Moss deal occured independently of all of this because we felt that he would be a good asset for our team. If he doesn't work out, it appears he's only signed for one year, in which case we will never have to see him again. We will not have a drawn out deal like the Eagles, Raiders, and Cowboys have had with bratty wideouts. I don't think this deal was "instead" of anything else, it was just "along with."
#4 Yes, the cornerback need was not dealt with. For me, the reason that makes the most sense is that things are looking good with Asante and we have a deal worked out. This would also support the cap space theory about trading away picks. It is also possible that, by drafting Meriweather, Eugene Wilson goes back to corner and we fill that need indirectly. Also, we did sign Tory James and Eddie Jackson, at least one of whom should contribute to the roster.
So no, I don't think it was a throwaway draft.
Come on, guys. Just because you disagree with someone, or even consider them stupid, doesn't mean you can't be respectful.
