No matter how this ends up, getting the potential of what Moss could be here for a 4th rounder is genius.
Moss MUST come in, shut up, and play hard. If he does, it was the steal of the decade, if he does not, we lose a 4th.

The potential for this offense is scary. Moss and Stallworth will open up the deep and intermediate game like we have never seen here. What you may not get with them, (the Branch/Brown underneath routes with rac) comes from Welker, Caldwell, Gaffney, Jackson, and/or Washington.
Oh, and what does this open up for the freakish receiving ability of Ben Watson?

The threats of receivers probably does more for Maroney in the running game than upgrading the OL would have.
The potential of this offense is the scariest I've seen in Pats history.

boy you are not joking. I am just simply in awe...I love Asante but all his shanaigans takes a back seat for awhile...I mean....Randy Moss is a patriot..along with Wes Welker,Adalius Thomas, Donte Stallworth...

?Pinch me.

I would only add "in a draft where BB/Pioli clearly don't like the talent available."

I'm pumped & jacked for what this O might be able to do to defenses next season; it not only stretched the field, but it also opens up "the box" and the potential for Maroney to use his speed to go 40+ yards.

I hate Moss and I can't find fault with this deal.

Never thought it would happen. If he comes in, becomes a team player, and plays to his ability, this is a steal. He should do that for one year anyway to win a ring.

I think the player who could benefit the most is David Thomas. The guy is a perfect underneath WR. Too bad he is injured right now because he could really have a great year as our number 2 TE. I think he works hard enough to beat out Kyle Brady, though his lack of size is an issue as far as blocking TEs go.

He might be Corey Dillon II. I remember watching one of the college allstar games in January, and they interviewed him in the box. I remember thinking, wow, this guy acts more mature than I thought he would be. His comments were all about wishing he had a chance to go to a winning team, his ultimate goal is to win a championship before he retires. I started watching and listening to the interview wanting to turn off the sound, and finished listening and being very impressed. BTW, Andre Ware was one of the guys in the booth, and he looks to be a bright star as a commentator for the future.

I am not a Moss lover, but with all the big time leaders here, and our penchant for winning a lot his ego will be neutralized and I suspect he just wants to get along for a ring... This O is incredible, we are giving a lot of D coordinators headaches right now.

So the Patriots traded their first round pick for 49ers 1st pick next year and Randy Moss, and the pick will likely be mid-early in the round. Definetly a steal.

From PFT: "Mort says that Bill Belichick got the green light from his veteran leaders to get their approval on Randy Moss."

Yup

For our DAY ONE draft picks, we got

Meriweather
Moss
Welker
a mid level 2008 1st and
a high level 2008 3rd

So far today we have
Brown a backup DL (needed unless you are comfortable with Hill)

======================

And BTW, as with Dillon, I actually have enormous respect for Randy Moss. He gets pi$$ed off with coaches and teammates who don't do what it takes to win. When he thinks the team is trying to win, he is the first on the practice field, the first in the film room, and last out. He is a LEADER is the huddle and in the locker room. He kicks butt! Against this backdrop, he is also one of the top few wide receivers in football. He is an instant mismatch for anyone not named Champ Bailey. He always takes a double team. He also runs a 4.295. Please read this again!! He was timed by GB and NE earlier this month. He runs a 4.30 and UNDER.

Randy Moss wanted to play for exactly ONE team, the patriots. He would only redo his contract to play for us. bb checked with his veterans before bringing him in.

This addition is absolutely HUGE. Some would say we were a few flu shots away from the SB last year. That is indeed true. I would also say that we weren't as good a team as SD. We have now replaced Branch and Givens with Moss, Stallworth, Welker, and Washington. We still have a potential player in Jackson. And there is still room for Brown if he wants to stay another year. bb owed Brady much more than last year's disasterous set of wide receivers, NONE of which was worthy of a double team.
=================================

We are now ready for the season. We will still add a couple of free agent jag linebackers, and a short yardage running abck. However, please note that compared to the playoffs, we have replaced Banta-Cain with Thomas, a serious upgrade.
=================================
We just draft a backup DL, an upgrade to Smith and Hill, one of which will now go.
=============================================================
We've brought in our future starting FS, who also is a fine nickel back! We brough in Tory James. These are immediate helps for our defensive backfield. Of course, we also expect at least some help in 2007 from at least one of Wilson, Harrison, Gay and Mitchell, none of which contributed much last year.
==========================
We have moved forward two picks to DAY ONE of the 2008 draft.
==========================
And BTW, we just might get some help from other seven picks for the rest of the day.
==========================
And yes, I do want us to trade for Turner.

good add... the only tweak I'd make there is "compared to players already on the Pats roster"

I was really questioning where and how 8, 9, and 10 guys would make this roster ...esp. with the offseason that we've had.

BTW: 5 first round picks in day one of Draft 2008?!?!?!?! AWESOME

And Welker too on the crossing routes. And the middle is open for Ben Watson too.

Brady is going to throw deep this year. Even if Moss isn't the recipient of the catch, he's going to do so much decoying, it's going to open up EVERYTHING. Brady's recognition, on par with any quarterback's in this league, is going to spot these openings, making him more effective.

And the running game should be more effective. No more John Lynch going after the quarterback, giving no thought to being burned deep. With our receiver corps, there's fear about giving up the easy score. So now defenses will have to play us seven in the box, four or more back when we have a running back behind Brady.

Pick and roll for seventy yards. That's what Moss does so well, run for big yardage after the catch. Since when did Reche Caldwell suddenly become our "possession" receiver? He's, what, the fourth fastest receiver, running "only" a 4.40 40?

I thought we had lived through the Golden Era of Patriots football--who'd have thought it's only going onto Phase Two!

Sorry for the excessive enthusiasm, but I'm a fan since 1978 and NEVER have we had both the best DL and receiver corps in all of football.

Some one pinch me: Is this real?

P.S. This draft may in fact be weak, confirming our deference to Bellichek/Pioli's decision-making. We give them the benefit of the doubt not going after LBer help with the second first-rounder.

The thought of this year's offensive potential reminds me of the Patriots Football Weekly cover in the summer of 1996 with Bledsoe, Glenn, Coates, Jefferson, Martin, Megget, and Gash dressed in army fatigues and the headline "Bledsoe's weapons" or something along those lines.

This year's crew would be even more scary.

Tom Brady just jumped up and down and high-fived Giselle!

This is a low risk/ high reward move. I'm not a big Moss fan but if he can shut his mouth and play it will be the steal of the decade.

In Bill I trust!
