I definitely wouldn't mind seeing Wendling, Moore, Robison, DeOssie, or Barbre in a Pats uniform. Same with Gattis.

Considering the Patriots activity in the free agent market, I'll buy a quiet draft in 2007 with extra 2008 picks. It was my impression that the 2007 draft class was lacking talent and while there are names that were passed on, patience may pay dividends.

The hardest part of being a Patriot fan right now is that we anticipated more than one pick on first day. At least some of you got the player you wanted in Meriweather. I don't even like Meriweather, but I hope he pans out.

There have been other players as well drafted later like Troy Brown, Sam Gash, Ronnie Lippett, Lin Dawson and Mosi Tatupu in the 8th and Nick Buoniconti in the 13th.

There are so many 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Rounders that have had great careers in the NFL that we would be here all day going through them. Antoine Bethea and Cato June were recent 6th Rd picks and Marques Colston a 7th. Denver's Terrell Davis was a 6th Rounder, Miami's Zach Thomas a 5th....the list goes on and on.

Go take a look at the Pats roster, off hand I count at least 45 roster spots aready taken. BB/SP know what they are doing, the know that the Pats are not going to get any comp picks next year, so they have already taken care of that, do you have any doubt that the SF pick next year is going to be significantly lower than 28? The 3rd from Oakland is basically a 2nd round comp pick for next year.

Plus I love having two other teams to root against all next year, it gives you three games a weekend to watch!!

What about taking Michael Bush and having him on PUP or IR for most of the year? We have little roster space, esp. at RB, so essentially he would be a pick for 2008.

JD, thank god there are knowledgeable fans like yourself still on the board. People think because they buy a few magazines that they are experts on the draft. Drafts aren't judged until several years later. The people who assess the draft less than 24hrs later are fools. People are angry because we drafted 1 player. They forget 1st and 3rd next year, all the FA we've added and we will add more, plus whatever the team does today. Unfortunately, with all the Pats success, I guess we're forced to put up with some bandwagon fans.

I can understand the frustration of only getting one player yesterday, but saying the draft is a complete failure is way overboard. I wasn't surprised when they traded away the 28th pick (and I would have liked to see them get more than a 4th, but that SF pick is going to look good next year), but I was a little surprised when they traded away the 3rd round pick. At first I thought they were getting Moss, who I think would be a good addition, but then I saw that they got draft picks for it. Reiss was able to put that move into perspecitive when he said they must not have anyone left on their board this year who is worthy of a 3rd round pick. So, instead of using it, they put it in the bank for next year, and a Raiders pick should be fairly high in that round next year. So, while we didn't get immediate gratification yesterday, that extra 1 (maybe in the teens) and that extra 3 (maybe around 70) are going to look awfully good during the off-season and heading into the draft next year. I also have confidence that BB and Pioli will make some second day picks that will help the team.

It's been a successful draft. Why waste picks when the roster is loaded. they could use depth at a couple positions, but why draft someone just to draft someone? We've seen that BB is very picky with his LB's and I'm fine by that because he brought in AD. They added a playmaker in the secondary. They have a bunch of cb's coming abck from injury(Gay, Wilson, Harrison).

You should be happy the Pats make good decisions like retaining Asante, signing a bunch of wr's to help Brady, and bringing in AD.

Imagine if this happened:

1. No AD
2. Let Asante walk
3. No wr's added, instead of getting Welker, thry draft another wr in the 2nd round who will take time to develop and get acclimated to the NFL
4. Use their 28th and 91st pick and just pick players just to use the picks
5. used their 24th pick on an OL

I'd say they have had a great offseason and people are crying becausing they have gotten little entertainment out of the draft.

If we could get Michael Bush and DeOssie in round 4 I would be thrilled. We might need to trade up to get it done, but as far as I'm concerned we don't have a ton of roster spots opened anyways, so its not a huge deal if we don't get some depth because we already have a lot. This probably won't happen but I would still like to see it happen.

If we could add Bush our offense would be simply spectacular. Don't even get me started on Moss. I know Bush and Moss probably won't be PAt's, but man I am just drooling over that thunder and lightening combo in the backfield with Brady and some ligit recievers.

When I analyze the pat's draft directly afterwards, I simply trust Billicheck and Pioli and figure that we are getting help and getting younger at whatever position they drafted. Other than that it's pretty impossible and stupid to try and call the draft a failure or success.
