Or trade it off for a 2008 first round pic and a high 4th rounder. Next years draft will be deeper, and we have the ability to have a chance to pick in the top 15 in a much better draft. Couple that with our the fact we will have a second first rounder AGAIN. We still have plently of picks left and picked up a great player at 24. Belipioli have a proven track record. This attitude is the same that impatient kids take if they dont blow all there money the second they get it. When if they waited they could get what they really wanted/need. harris is not that great pf a prospect. Its not like we passed on any crazy players.

Waste it? So if they had used it they would have wasted it? If thats the case I guess everyone after pick 27 in this years draft will be a bust? Please.

Belichick ob felt taking the trade was a better value this year. You know more then him eh  You are acting as if we did not pick someone at 24 and just passed on the first round. Next year it will be funny to hear all you guys change your tune if we have a shot at a true top player.

I don't have a big problem with the trade. The problem I have is we need to address the LB depth situation.

Bruschi is nearing the end of his career. Seau will be 38 next season and can't stay healthy anyway even if he was re-signed. Eric Alexander is a decent back up but I think we know he has certain weaknesses. Vrabel is still playing at a high level, but he's getting up there as well. There are some real needs here.

I do wonder if they keep the pick if Beason was there at 28.

Who cares, we have a first round pick next year.

That's my big problem as well. Unfortunately for us all the five-year NFL vet linebackers were drafted before the 24 spot. Nothing left but a bunch of college kids.

Because any of those lb's could step right in and start. Belichicks method of drafting lbs later has not worked for us at all:rolleyes:

Dont let history ruin your argument tho.

One that isn't going to be as high as a lot of people think. At the end of the day I think we'll be in the 18-21 range. Not bad at all, but that pick isn't going to be covering Dallas Clark in the playoffs next season.

(presume you were being sarcastic)

Exactly. As I said in another thread, its nice to look at the big picture, but NE had holes THIS YEAR that could have been addressed.

You don't have to mortgage everything for the present like the redskins, but all that trading of draft picks only pans out when you actually draft guys,.

I would have liked to seen us take a LB at #28. That's just me

The Pats aren't going to take a linebacker just to please you.
Look who got taken off the board -
Willis, Timmons, Beason.

Those are the top 3 linebackers in the draft, and evidently the only ones the Pats felt were 1st round values. Instead of reaching for a 2nd round talent LB they rolled the pick into the future where they might even get a top 15 player. I think the potential value is greater in the 49er's 2008 1st than reaching for Harris or Poz who I am not sold on as being worth #28.

How many threads and posts have already warned you guys not to expect a 1st round linebacker??

Meriweather fills a huge need and is very talented, let's just see if he pans out. I think you'll be pleased if you take a deep breath and think about the big picture (future) as well as this year.

I love the Meriweather pick and am happy with our new safety and Wes Welker. I admit I did like Spencer at 24 and Meriweather at 28. That would of been ideal for this "individual". However Meriweather probably would not have been there at 28 in that scenario.

Next year there will be 100's of players to choose from again. Lot's of hype, smokescreens and mirrors. It's nice to have 2 first round picks. I got a feeling the NFC is so terrible that the pick will it be in the 21-31 range. 49ers are much improved.

When the Colts are scoring at will, 2008 first round draft choice

won't do us a bit of good.
