Dolphins Trivia help please - how many draft picks wasted since 2000?

I've been trying to get some of our resident Fin Fans to help me with this but for some reason they keep ignoring the question.

I'm trying to figure out how many draft picks the Dolphins have wasted since 1999.

Since about 2000 they've given up second round choices for AJ Feely and Culpepper and I'm not sure who else... but I'm thinking to find a QB alone they've given up about an entire draft worth of players - not to mention all the $$$ they've spent on paying free agents and the players.

And of course they gave up what I think might have been two first rounders to the Saints to get Ricky Williams from them - I can't seem to find out how many yard Williams had for the Fins last season but I'm guessing he wasn't worth it.

So can anyone help give me a full tally? I can't wait to see what the Fins do this year as well - maybe they should just take QB with every draft pick and be done with it. After all, even a blind squirrel can sometimes find a nut.

Ricky Williams was the best RB in football during his Dolphins tenure, bar none. He was the sole offensive threat that team had, but man was he scary. People forget that Ricky was so good because he went crazy, but he was special.

You have to look, but there are some real gaps in there. And they have not done well in FA at all.

Ricky Williams was the best RB in football during his Dolphins tenure, bar none. He was the sole offensive threat that team had, but man was he scary. People forget that Ricky was so good because he went crazy, but he was special.

No doubt worth a great deal talent abd desire wise.

However, anyone who did a thorough background check, (before hies weird behavior in N.O.), knew he had head problems.

Hell, I knew, and i was only delivering Pizza in Austin at the time he played for the horns..

I guess I'm most interested in knowing how many and which draft picks they gave up for their effort to find a stable QB over the last 7 years. Knowing how much money they've paid to failed QB free agents (many of whom they gave up draft picks for) would be interesting as well

I think that alone has amounted to an entire draft worth of picks - add to that the 2 first rounders for Ricky and you've got a front office that has really been spinning its wheels and acting as its own worst enemy

That's true. The "any given Sunday" cliche is quite true. We had some real close calls against "weak" teams last year.

Struggle to beat, meaning occasionally splitting an annual series with the Dolphins? And are you counting the last game of the 2005 season that we did just about everything we could to lose to give us the playoff matchup we wanted against Jacksonville?

I'm not suggesting that Miami was unable to field a QB or RB - I'm just saying that to staff those two positions they've given up what's approaching TWO ENTIRE DRAFTS to staff those positions.

Just shows what a dysfunctional front office can do to a team - because Miami, even with all that going against them, indeed has won a handful of games.

How many of those players actually start? Yeah, it is great that you have guys like Roth, Evans, and the two Wrights; but none of them have shown that they can start. I hear Miami fans talk about guys like Roth only not starting because he has such great players ahead of him. I think that is BS. Also, Will Allen is going to be 29 at the start of the season. I don't think having a 29 year old CB is considered getting younger.

The fact of the matter is the only guy in their front seven who isn't over 30 is Channing Crowder. Jason Allen has been a disapointment thus far and I am not convinced he is the safety of the future for the Dolphins. The only guys I see as locks of being on the roster (barring contract disputes) in three years of your list above are Crowder and Bell. None of the other guys have shown they can be solid starters and Will Allen will be into his 30s and could be breaking down by then.

The Pats only have Bruschi, Vrabel, and Harrison who are over 30 and Thomas will be 30 by the start of the season. Also, the Pats have six starters who are 27 or younger. Also, keep in mind that James Sanders did a pretty good job starting for Harrison when he went down so he looks he could be the starter of the future. So the Pats are not nearly as aged you imply.

I beginning to think the curse of the Bambino has transfered to the curse of Ricky Williams. Since the Dolphins have traded for Williams, they have not made the playoffs. Even with the league leading RB and top five defense, they couldn't make it. They had a 10-6 record and couldn't make it. They can't get a legitimate starting QB no matter how many draft picks they trade. They had Drew Brees sitting on their lap and they forgo him to trade a second round pick for a mobile QB who had shreaded his knee. The Dolphins may be cursed.

Crowder is a starter, Roth will be this year Daniels was a starter his first season, but a high ankle sprain kept him out of the lineup last year. Miami didn't resign Vets like Carter because even though he produced he wasn't worth what he was making and Roth really came on last year. Jason Allen was abused by Saban as were most of our secondary he's schemes were just to complicated. Will Allen is in the prime of his career and had one of the best seasons he's had as a pro last year and how old is Harrison?? Allen has a lot of years left in him.

30 isn't old man, it's the prime of a football players career, if Jason Taylor or Zach Thomas were falling off, you would have a point, but you're trying to make an issue out of age when the players you're talking about are the best in the NFL. No matter who's behind them their youth can't make up for the talent JT and ZT have, so what does it matter their age. Miami is making plans to replace those players through the draft and have drafted youth. You have youngger players behind your veterans, but they won't replace the experience and talent of the veterans on your team.....but the youth is there.

Most of Miami's secondary is under 30, we may have an older front 7 but they are also one of the most talented front 7's and you Pat fans make an issue out of the Dolphins age and every year we have a better D. You make way to much out of the age of players. If they can play they can play, age is just an excuse for fans like you to criticize when you can't knock there performance.

I think the curse may have started when they shoved Shula out the door. Even though Jimmy Johnson was a master at drafting talent, he didn't stick around long enough to use the talent. Our issues started when DW became the HC and he thought a QB wasn't an important part of pro football. Cam Cameron gives us the best chance we've had in years cause he's an offensive minded HC with loads of success in the Air Coryell system. Saban was a very sought after coach by many many NFL teams, he just wasn't cut out for the Pro's.
