Is there a team with holes in their board this year?

A team without a #1 might be interested in trading quality picks fro a Pats #1 and a bunch of day 2 picks.

I don't think we'll get diddly for those day 2's alone.

We could make some team that screwed up look healthy quick and gain quality 2s and 3s for ourselves.

I hear Netflix has offered Blockbuster several romantic comedies for a handful of Japanese monster movies, Hollywood video is expected to make a bid too.

Only team this year w/ out a 1st is Seattle. Should we trade it back?

Well they certainly have a lot of trash at the bottom of the list like us.

Seriously, Box, you would know this. Are there teams who have traded away picks and will get a lot of flack from fans because they have few picks and maybe little to show for it?

The Patriots can package high and low picks to make a suddenly "healthy" draft and take the pressure off some team.

Meanwhile, it allows us to get some value for low picks that will just be camp cuts.

We still will have multiple low picks that are untradeable.

Sweet. I love that idea.:D

My scenario doesn't mean only non #1 holding teams, though.

Look at Miami, for example. They seem to trade a 2 for a bust yearly.

This does point out a problem with my scenario though, since we are missing a 2.

The idea is to offer top and lots of bottom picks to a team that could use them.

I'm sure some team might want 2 1st rounders. The problem lies in getting 2nds or 3rds since said team might have squandered. Of course possibly obtaining a vet LB makes great sense for our team.

Are the teams draft picks per round available in one place?

The Pats #1 trade asset is Asante. There was a rumor that had Washington interested to give up #6 for Asante and one of the NE 1sts. Presumably NE would then trade back to try and land Adam Carriker and Darrelle Revis.

Cincinnati is also reported interested in Asante, presumably the Pats could close that deal for an extra pick this year or next.

Tennessee may be willing to take Asante for their first and another pick this year or next.

http://www.newerascouting.com/index.php?c=6 lists 21 teams other than the Pats who may want a CB in this draft. The question is which clubs would choose to use a first on Asante? Would the Pats trade into the top 10? Would they think they could make a trade back and get more than one player out of the moves? Which player(s) would have top ten value for NE? As far as I'm concerned, only Carriker.

The Redskins are the only team who has gutted their draft and I don't think they give a hang what the fans think.

It says that the Skins would be trading into the 1st round. Most likely meaning that it would be pick #38 and a 1st in 2008 for the #24 pick.

WTF. The Skins don't have a pick to trade, after #6, until the 5th round this year.

According to NFL.COM, the Skins have their 2nd round pick.

EDIT: I stand corrected. Some how the page went back on me and was showin Arizona's picks.
Washington doesn't have a 2nd rounder so I agree. There is no way in hell the Pats would do that trade.

Peter King has Pats trading away the #24 to Wash for a 2008 1st but doesn't specify any other compensation. At #28, Pats take Griffin.

Cousins,
I posed this on another thread but it appears this should have been the right thread. Sorry.
Proposed "BLOCKBUSTER" trade:

The Skins would trade their #6 to the Pats plus S Sean Taylor and CB Carlos Rogers for the Pats CB Assante Samuel, DE Marquis Hill, the Pats #24, the Pats #127 in Round 4, the Pats #202 pick in round six.

Now before "The NFL Value Chart" Police arrest me, why and how?

The Skins were willing to swap picks with the Bears at #31. The Bears wouldn't...."bite". The wanted a couple players and perhaps a 2008 pick as well. They're still talking, but CB is a bigger need for the Skins.

The franchise tag on Samuel says a signing new team would pay the Pats two first round choices. Bill Belichick doesn't want to trade Assante, but also knows that two number ones will not happen.

The Skins need a CB as they feel Carlos Rogers has digressed.

Assante was maybe a top five CB in the league in 2006.

Marquis Hill was a second round draft choice by Belichick and is 6' 6" and 300lbs. He is not going to play in front of the stud DL players the Pats have now. The Skins are desperate for a DE. This kid maybe as good as some that will be drafted but he has NFL experience and he is still young. Part of the Skins DB problem is only 19 sacks in 2006. Hill should help and can probably play DT in a 43 scheme as well. The Redskins system might be better for the 25 year old to flourish. Either that or he is a camp casualty and we get nada.

Now the Skins get back a very valuable pick in round one at #24 a decent fourth round pick at #127 and an added sixth at #202..........Three draft choices!

The Skins wanted to convert Taylor back to SS this year after the Archuleta experiment failed. In the Draft there are a wealth of SS available at #24 and perhaps even at #127. Fox started to come on and he would be the FS. There is Rouse, Gattis, Piscitelli, Wendling, Harrison, Johnson, Payne, Dahl, Stone and more.

Or #127 can be used for another pass rushing D-lineman like Bazuin (conference record for sacks), Moses or Jay Moore might be available.

Losing Holdman might have them draft a OLB like a Beason or a Bradley.

The Wild card here? Send #24 and #127 to the Bears for Briggs. After Urlacher got involved in the contract negotiations for his buddy Lance, Lance has to go.

Let's see,…..Samuel, Briggs and Hill by the beginning of Day Two in the draft would be huge for the Redskins. They are all young players.

Now to the Pats:

The Pats needed a S and Taylor would be a perfect piece to their 2007 puzzle. Belichick lets rookies sit in most cases and prefers experience. Taylor had a down year in 2006 but is a talent. The Pats would hope he can fit their system and benefit from it and become a force once more. The Pats do not play a traditional FS, SS so with the 24 year old Taylor and a healthy Rodney Harrison in the middle next year, if your a WR, up your insurance. If you’re a RB do the same. You will get popped.

Carlos Rogers, like Hill he is an enigma. Only one INT in 2006. He has been a disappointment and an underachiever. Perhaps the same thing can be said about Hill although who is going to sit in NE with that talent. The theory is that the NE system made Samuel what he was in 2006. They are hoping they can reclaim Rogers and head him in that direction. It's a gamble but he is like Samuel, only 26.

The Pats have two number ones and can keep one of those (#28) plus they pick up the number six pick in the draft. What do they do with that? ..............Patrick Willis ILB, Mississippi. The young LB that many teams covet. Bruschi is a year older as are some of the other Pats LB's. This is a very classy, talented young man.

The Pats hold first round #28 and replace hill with an upgrade at DE/OLB, the hybrid the Pats like. David Woodley would be my pick at the choice at #28 for the Pats.
. Its' all for fun and speculation but it could work.

I don't know about a blockbuster, but there may be more value in trading up if the right player is there. According to BB everyone wants to trade back. It would have to be a player they really think is special before I would consider trading up.

Chart shows some possible options for a trade up scenario. The combined value of the Pats picks at 24 & 28 is 1400.

I know it is fun but it doesn't seem to be based in reality. It might as well be Eric Alexander for LaDainian Tomlinson.

Washington would live up to there well earned reputation of being idiots. If they made this trade it would be worse than signing Adam Archuleta for $35 million and then cutting him the next year.

Samuel - has no contract, expecting contract between 30-40 million
Hill - total stifff

Taylor- good, albeit overated but cheap
2007 1125000.00
2008 865000.00
2009 1105000.00

Rogers - not vey good but there are worse 4th or 5th CBs and very cheap
2007 435000.00
2008 522500.00
2009 602500.00
2010 700000.00

NFL Value Chart (cannot be completely ignored)
http://www.theredzone.org/2006/draft/draftvaluechart.asp
Pick 6 - 1,400

Traded picks
24 - 740
127 - 45
202 - 10 approx
Total - 795

1600 - 795 = 805 or about the same pick 21 in round 1

Rogers and Taylor have some 13.8 million remaining in signing bonus amortization. They currently count about 5 million against the cap, so, trading them would mean they would have to have 8.8 million in free cap space. They currently only have 5.6 million.

Next, add in the new contracts from Briggs and Samuel (who figure to count at least 6 million each against the cap) and there is even MORE money that the Redskins would have to free up.

I just don't see it happening.

Fantastic, Box, thanks. My only angle is trying to package the tradeable low picks so we can get more day ones. DWs got the right idea, though who knows about all the trades.

It really doesn't matter if Asante or a #1 is the premium bait. The package adds value, the low rounders alone aren't worth diddly.

The skins are so dumb they trade away anything of value so you can't deal with them.

The wildcard is a vet LB. It's what we covet and a young back up might cause us to make a large deal with picks on both sides and a LB coming our way.

Don't see a team that would be a good pick trade partner. The ones that are close are all teams we don't want to help.

And the skins who are just stoopid when it comes to drafts.

Lots of teams end up with 6th rounders because of compensation.
