After pouring through all the magazines, websites, scouting reports, and videos, let's do our best Piolichick impression and put down our best guesses for the Patriots' first few picks. I'll post mine in just a little bit.

Re: Official 1st/2nd Round 2007 NFL Draft Predictions

I'm sticking with my prediction of :

Anthony Gonzalez
David Harris
Aaron Rouse

After that, who knows.

Re: Official 1st/2nd Round 2007 NFL Draft Predictions

I'll say:

David Harris
Michael Griffin
Brian Robison

Re: Official 1st/2nd Round 2007 NFL Draft Predictions

If they stay at 24 and 28:

Michael Griffin
David Harris.

If they trade up:

Patrick Willis.

91: Depending of the 1st round. Tony Hunt (if staying at 24 and 28) and Michael Coe if they trade up to get Wllis.

Re: Official 1st/2nd Round 2007 NFL Draft Predictions

LaMarr Woodley
Brian Leonard
Stewart Bradley

Re: Official 1st/2nd Round 2007 NFL Draft Predictions

This says first and second round, so I'm going with:

24: Reggie Nelson
28: David Harris

A guy can hope, right? :)

I would have had Griffin over Gonzalez except I like some of the Safeties that should be there in the third round.

Re: Official 1st/2nd Round 2007 NFL Draft Predictions

24: Meriweather I like Griffin more but I have a feeling they get meriweather
28: Harris

Re: Official 1st/2nd Round 2007 NFL Draft Predictions

24: Trade with Lions...

Lions get:
Seahawks 2007 1st round pick (#24 overall) - John Beck, QB, BYU
Patriots 2008 2nd round pick
Patriots 2007 6th round pick

Patriots get:
Lions 2008 1st round pick
Lions 2007 2nd round pick (#34 overall)
Rams 2007 5th round pick (#154 overall)

28: David Harris, LB, Michigan
34: Eric Weddle, S, Utah
91: Michael Bush, RB, Louisville

Aaron Ross DB from Texas

Ryan Kalil Center from USC

Another OL early you heard it hear first.

Patriots will trade one pick out of round 1 for a round 2 pick and something else.

Re: Official 1st/2nd Round 2007 NFL Draft Predictions

The most likely scenario is Staley at #24 and R. Nelson at #28. This is not necessarily what I would do, just what I think the Pats are most likely to do. I think this is the way BB's board ranks the prospects who may become available in the late 1st rd:

1. Revis: they will trade up and target Revis in the unlikely event he falls into the late teens. If they are able to do so, they will then trade down from #28 to recoup picks. In that case, their next pick (a mid to late 2nd rdr) will be D. Harris/B. Leonard/K. Irons/J.Gattis, in that order of priority. If they stay put at #24, then...
2. Staley: at #24 if available. If not, then...
3. R. Nelson: I think they will draft him supposedly as a FS, but with the intended flexibility of moving him to CB if dictated by other personnel decisions. If Nelson is already gone, then...
4. Spencer: The most athletic players on the field, from a size/speed ratio standpoint, are TEs and 4-3 DEs/3-4 OLBs. The signing of A. Thomas does not preclude the drafting of Spencer, just as the drafting of Graham did not prevent the drafting of Watson. Colvin may be gone soon, Vrabel may be gone soon, just as Graham is now gone. If Spencer is off the board, then...
5. Harris: his merits have been dissected ad nauseum.

So the Pats' board, from the late 1st to the late 2nd rd, is
1. Revis
2. Staley
3. Nelson
4. Spencer
5. Harris
6. Leonard
7. Irons
8. Gattis

Pony kind of beat me to the punch with my first guess, but here is what I think:

1a OT Joe Staley
1b CB Aaron Ross

3 S/ILB Aaron Rouse

Random thought: with all the talk about this being a weak draft, wouldn't it make sense to try to move UP this year instead of trade down? I'm thinking package both 1st rounders for a top 10 stud pick, maybe pick up a 3rd round pick as well from the deal, and go from there?

thats actually a great trade for the pats....we all know the lions are probably gonna be a top 10 pick year in and year out

The Pats defense is built around linebackers, and they'll get Brusci's replacement this year.

They trade up and pick Patrick Willis in the first round.

They take Michael Bush in the 3rd Round.

Re: Official 1st/2nd Round 2007 NFL Draft Predictions

24: Griffin
28: Harris

Nelson is gone before #24, Merriweather may still be around though.

i def think we could trade
up, down, allll around

but if we stay:
24: merriweather
28 woodley (harris is a smokescreen ;) )

24: Brandon Meriweather
28: David Harris
91: Tony Hunt

At 24 Paul Posluszny - Need based pick
At 28 Michael Griffin or Ryal Kalil - Best player left on the board
At 91 Tony Hunt - Corey Dillon Clone

#24 Brandon Siler
#28 Paul Posluzsny
#91 Darius Walker
