Asante Samuel went to Central Florida. Granted he was a 4th round selection, but he didn't have any hype that I'm aware of going into that draft.

Very true. But I think Asante and Mathis in '03 are very rare. I'd rather play it safe than gamble. Other people like to swing for the fences. I like to play the percentages. It doesn't make anyone right or wrong necessarily. In the long run I think the safe approach may lead to fewer busts, but fewer stars.

I think the only first round pick that was obvious to every Pats fan was Wilfork, but even then it was only obvious after he unexpectedly dropped on draft day. I'd say that Harris at 28 is probably the safest bet since then (using the term "safe" very loosely), which is no surprise to anyone but PFT as this board has been talking about it for a very long time now.

BEST....MOCK.....EVER!!!

A source recently said he doesn't understand why some are ranking LaMarr Woodley so low. He said Woodley is the second best DE in this draft behind only Gaines Adams. I recently noticed a report on Patriots.com that stated the same thing. I've been on Woodley for awhile, and I completely agree. This is why I don't think Woodley would be a reach at 28, if they were to pick him.

I agree. A great mock. But I think Revis will go higher. I think you might have to go up to #10, with Houston, to get Revis. I'm not sure Asante can bring that kind of value, but he should. It work out well for everyone. Houston would have an established cb to pair with Robinson who could impact immediately in a "win now" situation for the Texans, Asante would get his money and the Pats would get Revis, who could be brought along gradually as a 3rd CB in year 1. The wild card in the Pats drfat is definitely a potential trade of Samuel, and how much value he has. Any guesses?

My issues with Woodley at OLB are these: He opted out of Senior Bowl practices due to injury, but prior to leaving he had not shown well. He opted out of the combine due to injury. He chose not to run a 3 cone drill. He may have done this legitimately, or to conceal his marginal quickness before the draft and keep 3-4 teams intrigued by an unknown rather than turned off by a bad score. His pro day speed was reported by Gil Brandt 4.8 and 4.95. http://nfl.com/draft/analysis/expert/brandt/dl, which jives with my impression while watching him play. He was neutralized vs Ohio St, where he did not show great closing speed, and especially USC vs. an NFL caliber LT. He lost 20 lbs last offseason to gain quickness and his natural build is a thick 275 +, which he will trend back to in the next few years, as is normal for players between 21 and 25. His game is similar to Daryl Tapp, who came on strong for the Seahawks late in the year as a 4-3 DE. Woodley's short area explosion and body type make him more suitable to 4-3 DE than OLB IMO. I think he can become a starter at 4-3 DE. It's a gamble at 3-4 OLB, especially in rd 1.

Those times aren't correct, and he's reported some other times incorrectly in the past. Woodley ran two 40's at his Pro Day the times were: 4.74 and 4.84. He still had a little tightness in his hammy, but he's probably fine now. Also, Woodley has run a 4.62 - 40 in the past. When I watched him play his pass rush and his play around the LOS reminded me of Adalius Thomas. Obviously he doesn't have the same type of coverage ability, but he's a very good pass rusher, and believe it or not NE could use another young pass rusher. He's also good against the run which would be an upgrade over past pass rushing OLB's.
