How about Griffin and Harris?

Both seem to be moving up in our interest. We might have to move around a bit, or not. I suspect that most posters would be satisfied after the first if we met both FS and ILB needs with these players. I would also note that Griffin is an impressive punt blocker.

Corner seems less critical with the signing of James and with Gay staying, and also with no Samuel trade. If there is a Samuel trade, we would presumably have an additional pick to use on a corner, but even without Samuel, we have Hobbs, Scott, James and Gay (and Wilson).

Wouldn't complain, but I'd want them to trade down to the mid second and pick up a third or fourth round pick.

Then they could pick Harris in the 2nd, and have 3 picks in the next two rounds.

BB'll have us all scratching our heads. Again.

Some times I think he intentionally drafts against the grain, guys like Moroney and Mankins and Watson, just to prove that the rest of us really have no idea what is in his mind. Plus, it keeps the rest of the GMs on their toes.

Another scenario like above would have Staley and Gonzalez as the picks. It's entirely possible that the Pats board only has several defensive players ranked high, and if they're all off the board, we'll still draft for value -- even if it's all offense -- hence the Staley/Gonzalez picks.

The rest of the GMs are on their toes during the season and off season -- their used to it.

Or...since the only defensive guys they value are higher in the draft they take the picks, package them and take Willis or Landry.

Would be a decent first round. I have my reservations on both guys, but none that would cause me to not draft either one.

I would be just as happy with Ross and Beason.

I will note that the Patriots did not hold a private workout with Griffin, nor did they invite him to Foxboro, that I am aware. Both Maroney and Chad Jackson had Foxboro visits last year.

I like Harris for the specific LB position, the SILB position, where we are currently playing an out-of-position OLB simply becasue there is no one else. That is the most important position to obtain a player.

The next most important position is a WILB to groom/play behind Tedy. Willis would fit but he is probably gone. I like Poz for the position but Beason seems to be a favorite there.

Griffin is the best of the second tier three Safeties, as I think BB/SP would view him. He hits, unlike the others; he is an able STer; and his coverage is pretty good for a Safety. That still does not add up to the "special safety" status required, to be drafted with a #1 pick. But if they were to do so, he would be the choice behind "unobtanium" Laron Landry.

I still insist that the secondary "need" is a leftover "hangover" view from having to play the second half with the 8th Safety and the 7th LB, as all others were injured by the second half of the AFCCG. Wilson, Sanders, Hawkins, Mitchell and the part-time, old ex-starter vet depth, Rodney Harrsion make a fine Safety corps.
