great
and i kinda wanted this guy

we all know this means there is no way we are picking him

Guess what? He was going to be my surprise bom* (oops) I was going to reveal this week.

Was focusing on the LB options today, finally deciding we won't draft one at #24. Bringing me to the remaining LBs at #28, and which ones fit best. Couldn't find one left in round one, bringing me to Harris in round two. Well, he won't make it to our round three pick, and barring any trade, we don't have a second-rounder. What to do I wondered...AHA! Make him an option at #28, knowing no one will take him this early -- except BB -- who doesn't care about consensus rankings. Want a head-banger -- here's your guy (sorry TJ).

Understand, unlike the unnamed source, I'm not predicting we'll pick him at #28. Just saying he's now a surprise option there.

#24 -- Griffin/Staley/?
#28 -- Harris/?

A very safe, solid pick. I hope the source is correct.

Haven't we been talking about this guy as an option at 28 for at least the past two weeks?

Something strikes me as not-so-kosher here. Think about it for a second: if teams "know" they want David Harris, and the Pats plan to take him at 28 (and why 28 and not 24, if they're that certain about it?), wouldn't that give teams at 25, 26, and 27 added leverage for teams looking to trade up to get him?

It's all misinformation. Think about this.... when is the last time someyhing credible was leaked by the Pats. It just doesn't happen. It's speculation or misinformation.

The CIA leaks more than the Pats.

As I said on the main board thread, it doesn't say it's from the Patriots - it reads as the strong opinion of another team. Nothing more, nothing less.

I had NE taking him in all three of my ideal mock's (posted 4/10/07):

** NE trades Asante Samuel to the Titans for 19th overall **
** NE trades 24th overall to Tampa Bay for 35th and 64th overall **

1.19: CB Darrelle Revis
1.28: S Brandon Meriweather
2.3: ILB David Harris
2.32: OLB/ILB Stewart Bradley
3.28: RB Lorenzo "L-Boogie" Booker or B-Jax
4.28: S Wendling or S Piscitelli
5(comp): DeAndre Jackson or Usama Young (climbing)
6.6: OT Mike Otto
6.28: WR Chris Davis
6(comp): NT Walter Thomas
6(comp): QB Jared Zabransky
7(comp): BPA

UDFA: OLB/ILB Madison Miller

Patchick also had him going to NE at 28th overall. I can't remember who else had him going to NE. Here the link

I'm not one of the "we", so no -- I haven't been talking about him in that slot. He's not now, and never has been considered a round one prospect -- except very recently for the Pats -- because we reach for players who fit. The players who were once #28 options have risen to #24 possibilities. The players who were considered early second-rounders have risen into #28 considerations. Risers and fallers -- that's how it plays out every draft.

But if someone wants to be first, second, third, whatever -- in predicting correctly who the Pats selections will be -- go for it! I'll post my thoughts elsewhere.

I would love this pick at #28. And if we got Griffin at #24 it would make my day. I love the fact that Griffin is also a very talented ST player. Griffin & Harris would be sweet.

I second that

All this Harrising chatter...leads one to surmise the Pats are taking a Punter in round one.

Harris is great value at a position of great need.:rocker:

The draft is close yet so far!!!!!!

AHHH!!!!

I'd still prefer to see us trade back into the 2nd(TB@35/ATL@39) select Harris/Weddle there & get an additional 3rd round pick out of it.

Harris maybe a bit one dimensional but Posluszny just gets devoured by bigger blockers while Harris does a fine job of shedding them and moving into the hole. Posluszny is cut out for an outside spot in a 4-3 but is too small for the outside with the Pats 3-4 and can't handle the physicality of playing inside in a 3-4 either. Posluszny seems like a good guy with good effort but he'd be more successful elsewhere.

I think Weddle is a long shot to become a starting caliber NFL safety. He's does not appear explosive enough to play strong safety, or have the length to play free safety. His quickness is excellent and his best position may actually be cb, the position he has wanted to play all along. However, the fact it may be his best position does not guarantee he will succeed at it in the NFL...the track record of non-BCS cbs like Weddle is poor in recent years. The track record of non-BCS safeties is much better, such as Nick Collins and Danieal Manning, but both had better measurables than Weddle for that position. I would not be comfortable with Weddle on Day 1.
