This just occurred to me tonight:
If you lose enough free agents, you get comp picks the next year. If you sign more than you lose, you don't get any comp picks. But no matter how many you sign, you can't dip below zero comp picks or anything. So, maybe, once you reach the point where you're signing more than you're losing, you should keep on signing up a storm (Patriots 2007), and you've got nothing (in comp picks) to lose!
